I can imagine. I'm a very casual gamer and always play on the easiest level so the Tier 1 option is likely not for me 

You can activate/deactivate Tier 1 at any stage PZ, it only effects the Tier 1 upgrade of the weapons.

The main reason I activated Tier 1 is to get that sniper rifle, some missions you don't notice the change in difficulty,
and some you do, I just deactivate Tier 1 and redo the mission in easy mode

An useful tip: The convoys in the game use a set route just like FC2's. Simply fast traveling to the cities/rebel outposts near a convoy route is a quick way to earn resources

I'm using a FarCry 2 trick to liberate a convoy   
Plant a c4 on the vehicle you're using, overtake the convoy if you catch up to it from behind,
bailout at a safe spot, order Rebel help, run like hell away from the scene and as the convoy passes your vehicle,
BOOM........take the chopper out first and then deal with the remaining guards, if any

Yep, it worked in FC2 and no reason why it shouldn't also w0#k in Wildlands,
and it doesn't matter if the vehicle you need to tag gets blown up in the process
you can still tag it   
We learned a lot of things in FC2, specially blowing things up
