In my case, it's a matter of being just outside the town limits and the last time (mid 90s) the cable company upgraded, they went to the town line a stopped. It's literally just down the road from me. So, fast forward two decades and Charter wants to buy Time Warner Cable, who was the local company here. For once, our usually clueless politicos made a good decision and told them in order for their merger to be approved, they have to wire a certain percentage of the unserved areas in the state. Grumbling, kicking and screaming, the new company, Spectrum, was forced to add new lines and improve the areas served, which thankfully, includes me. The wires are up, I'm just waiting for spring for the ground to thaw out, because our wires are underground and digging through snow then into frozen earth is no fun.

So, once they install, I should have a 100mb (they keep advertising they are upgrading everyone to 100mb from 60mb, we shall see) and unlimited download. In the meantime, I will deal with the 4G speed and possibility of throttling if I go over.

So, when forced by a government that for once didn't have it's collective head up it's exit ramp, the ISP actually did something beneficial.

currently downloading a game from steam at 47 Mbps

in other words, around 30 Gigs in under 2 hours.
