The mesh casting the shadow is a different object than the visual one, usually much lower poly, but in this case, much higher! Pretty funny.

I'll have to buy those Mauser pistols, I mean, I have over $23K burning a hole in my pocket, might as well spend it on something. I'm almost back up to 100 gold bars as well, just by doing a couple daily quests each day and the random free roam event now and then.

LP went with gold, I went with black and white. Well, blue steel and nickel, actually. Pearl handle on the nickel one and ebony on the blue steel. Carved handles and engraved parts. Can't really get a good shot of them though. Maybe in cleaning mode it would be better.

yeah, cleaning weapons is the best view

Yep, better pics:

The white one has the snake carving on the ivory handle, the black one has the panther carving on the ebony handle. I just wish the white finish one looked cleaner, but eh that's how it is.

They look cool but the kick back is rough, I just did a test firing and the first bullet is on target, the second one a few feet above, the third even higher, and so on, lol. Dual wielding looks cool, but fast firing is pointless hehe.

unless you can use dead eye.

Dweller_Benthos

Dead eye makes it so recoil has no effect? No wonder it's so cheaty.

I still can't get it to w0#k reliably anyway.

at least in SP there's absolutely no recoil when using dead eye. That's how you can reliably hit every target exactly where you marked it.

As to your problem making dead eye w0#k.. while I understand that you can't get it to w0#k, I really don't understand why. I tried everything I could think of, including vids, to help you with what I'd call the most essential game mechanic of RDR2, which everybody else, including me, learned by simply playing the tutorial.

Dweller_Benthos

I don't recall a tutorial, unless it was one of those two second text popups in the corner of the screen that they expect you to read while you're in the middle of a fight.

I looked it up and found this succinct explanation:

"Dead Eye in Red Dead Redemption 2 can only be activated if the player is already aiming down the sights of their weapon. On PC, that means holding down the right mouse button. Once you're aiming, press the middle mouse button to activate Dead Eye. While in Dead Eye, mark enemies by mousing over them and pressing Q. Left click to start blasting."

I take it the pressing Q bit is not needed in some cases as it auto-selects depending on the stage of the story you're in? Then again, I've rebound that key so I'll have to look up what I rebound it to, as Q is strafe left for me. That's my whole stumbling block, the marking bit, or I'm expecting it to w0#k differently than it does. I got it to w0#k that one time and never again. It always seemed to be too much trouble to bother learning how it worked, I just shoot stuff, usually with a scope from a great distance that dead eye wouldn't w0#k anyway.

dead eye does w0#k with scoped weapons. Just not the way you expected it to w0#k  It slows time just like it does without scope but with scope, you cannot mark targets.

The Q-bit (hehe) got me as well when I was new to the game and kept hearing/reading other people mentioning "mark with Q" and especially because you do see the key-mapping for Q (or whatever you rebound it to) for a "mark target" function that simply doesn't exist until late in chapter 3 (train robbery) when you unlock it. Before that, just strafing over any target will riddle the target with marks if you keep aiming at the same target in dead eye. That's when the "karaoke technique" comes into play that we discussed, like "jumping" with the crosshairs from head to head while avoiding other body parts or targets. ;)

And I keep forgetting that you're only so far advanced in online, not in SP. Apparently you haven't played SP much, if at all, since we last talked about that dead eye stuff.

BinnZ

And in Online Dead Eye is totally different, since it never slows down the time. The only thing you can basically use it for is to mark targets by swaying over them with the right ability card activated.
I really had to get used to live aiming again after playing the SP campaign. That timer was really addictive :gnehe:

Yeah I took the time last night to finally figure it out. Went down to the swamps where the alligators just sit there and as long as you don't threaten them, they don't move. Made it easier to practice how to do it without the problem of a moving target. So, yeah, I got it to w0#k. Still find it awkward and clumsy and requires extra steps when I can just whip out a gun and shoot something and be done with it. The only situation I can think of that it might be useful is for birds in flight and the odd hidden predator like those mountain lions I can never see before they attack me. If you happen to get caught out in the open by 5 or 6 human NPC enemies, it would probably come in handy too.

Online is different as Binn says, figured that out as well, best card is paint it black, as you just wave your aim around the general area of something and they get marked. Didn't try it against a human player so that might be different. I had been using slippery bastard only to try to foil other players from using dead eye against me, but that only works if you're in dead eye mode too, so it's pointless.

nice. Funny, those "only times" is more or less all there is except hunting for perfect pelts and skins. I guess you never felt like hunting for perfect skins
