Played a bit to get an idea of what the new Naturalist role is all about. First off, you can't kill any animals if you want to stay on the good side of the woman handing out missions. Forget her name, is it Harriet? Anyway, I had shot a deer to give to Cripps to get the trader role back running and got a pop up about her not liking you killing animals and if you kill enough she'll get mad. We all know that you tend to get attacked in this game so there must be some leeway to how much you can kill before she angers. Not sure what happens then, you probably have to do something to get back on her good side.

Anyway, I did a free roam event where the players tranquilize and tag different animals. Luckily the other players knew what to do because I didn't lol. But I eventually got a longhorn sheep to go down after shooting it with a tranquilizer about 10 times. Then the rest of the players found the other animals and I got a bit of money and reputation for it so that was nice.

So I went to her store to buy tranquilizers (they give you some for the free roam event, but they go away when it's done) and bought some other stuff from her, mostly things that were free with the outlaw pass or something, I don't know, but they were free. Then I took on a mission to find a rare fox, which was interesting as you had to track it all over the swamps past alligators, which are more aggressive now, so watch out lol! and into the sugar cane field near St Denis. Well, after all that, killing poachers, and shooting it a couple times with the tranq gun, it gets away.

Rage quit.

Oh, but I did see this funny thing in Strawberry:

looks uncomfortable for the horse, don't you think?

Oh yeah, also got trolled by a hacker, only about the second or third time that's happened, they were using the explosive hack to shoot me into the air so high that of course, I die upon impact, and the hack blames other players for it as a different player was named as my assailant each time. Hope that doesn't become a thing like in GTA. Well, it was nice while it lasted. I took video, not sure if I'll post it or not.

that's the one thing I really don't get about Rockstar. They've been making money off their online games for years and STILL they haven't established a properly working anti-cheat/anti-hack solution.

OK, they probably think: "why should we, people keep playing." All they keep fixing is anything that allows players to make easy money. Like in GTAO, "you can't sell more than one stolen car in 48 minutes (one in-game day)" and they also "fixed" that I could set up sticky bombs (or whatever they were called) and go inside my own house to remotely blow them up from there (protected against police forces going mental outside) and that ruined my cool solo solution for a very difficult mission. LoPo remembers exactly which one that was.

Me too. Think it was my apt that gave you the idea, wasn't it?  ;)

Too bad about the tranq rifle ammo habit, really strange that you need multiple rounds on a bloody fox, lol
And weird that they don't allow you to keep hunting while playing a different role. It's a freaking game after all, you moralists!
Maybe the fat retired fart is the better option then, so much for R* shame design lol

Don't know of I Will dive back into it just to experience more of that  :gnehe:

yes and no. I had played the mission like that already (hiding in an apartment before blowing up the sticky bomb) and I used the apartment opposite the massive construction site in the centre of LS. Your stilt house however was right next to one of the judges that I had to kill so I was dreaming of sitting in that house when the judge died and then watching the police going bonkers outside. But it never happened because Rockstar nerfed it before I could do it.

Dweller_Benthos

Thank you Rockstar! Yeah, how hard is it to figure out an anti-cheat system? Instead they just put in band-aids like you not being able to make a certain amount of money in a short amount of time. How about just fixing the hack that lets people drop money?

Yeah it is kind of weird that the Trader and Naturalist roles are against each other. At least if you're going for what Harriet wants, I'm sure the other guy doesn't care, I haven't talked to him yet. Still kind of salty about that fox hunt yesterday lol.

hehe yeah  that must have been frustrating.

Thing was, I was right on him, following his trail, and all of a sudden it was gone, he had doubled back on his own tracks and ran the opposite direction. Of course, in tracking mode that's not obvious, there are just glowing spots on the ground, you can't really tell what direction they lead. When I switched back to eagle eye mode where you see the track as glowing lines, it was obvious what he'd done and that I'd been running in the wrong direction. No way to catch up, the mission failed.

Dweller, if you look closely in eagle eye mode, you'll see that the tracks are glowing in waves. You can actually tell in which direction the tracks lead as the wave flows in that direction.

Dweller_Benthos

Honestly I think I knew that, just wasn't paying attention, plus usually there's not more than one track visible at a time amongst the grass so you can't tell. I was switching between tracking mode and eagle eye mode which I find easier to use, but it runs out too quick. Just so happened I waited too long to switch and he got away. Ah well.

One of the new daily quests is to go a certain number of game hours without killing any animals, another one from Harriet, I guess. So I wasn't specifically going for that one, but I figured I would try to avoid killing anything as long as they cooperated and didn't attack me. So I was riding along to somewhere, open trail nothing around, didn't even have my gun out and the popup comes up for the bonus XP for using free aim, then a kill bonus then the popup for Harriet not being happy. Apparently I'm so good that I killed something without even shooting or having my gun out. Better watch out, I can now apparently shoot things telepathically.

Or it's a bug, but really, how likely is that? I mean Rockstar games are perfect, right?   :banghead:

Your horse must've stamped on something. Happened to me too, getting free aim bonuses for something my horse killed :P
