I went into the vault. Made it out. Found back my home and my bot and had a funny conversation with him. I explored the little village of Sanctuary and found a truckload of loot. Most is *bleep* I suppose but I haven't found a way to sell that *bleep* yet. I now have to investigate Cosword. Sounds creepy. I decided first to check out the gas station nearby and found this bugger. He seems nice. I'll keep him. And he does a nice job killing mole rats. There's a truckload of workbenches in that station. Haven't tested them all out yet. The building is a bit too much for me now I guess. Didn't completely get the menu. Anyway; I upgraded my 10mm pistol a bit. Now on to Cosword. See if I can steal some nice weaponry there :evil2:

it's a bit confusing: the bot's name is Codsworth and you're supposed to check out Concord. ;)

Binn (I hope without saying too much) there is a safe place to sleep in Sanctuary Hills right from the start of the game that I used early on in both of my game starts to heal up and escape several bad radiation storms.  Just give the area a thorough search.

Yeah Sanctuary is the safe zone, it has a lot of loot (look around carefully, be sure to look in back yards, you know, for places people might hide stuff) and is an easy place to set up for defense and sleeping.

Have fun Binn!

... and Dogmeat is a good boy. Yes he is.

Thanks for the tips guys! My savegame is close enough to go back and check those backyards

So I freed those guys in concord. And got a power armour, that, after fighting the monster and going back to sanctuary, went out of battery power. Here's some jokers seemingly renovating the place :gnehe:

nice :) "seemingly" nails it, they'll keep doing that without any results. :banghead:

When I played that mission for the first time, I had quite a few extra heart beats. That Deathclaw was like Godzilla and he even tried to get into the house I was hiding in. Quite something, the first time around.

BinnZ

Yeah I couldn't get him down with the minigun only. So I had to configure my loadout that I had Molotovs at hand. They were quite effective because the fire would distract him and deal some extra damage. It took me a couple of tries before I had him :)

Nice, Binn! Yeah, expect to go back to Sanctuary a lot, this isn't the type of game where you leave an area and never return, you'll be going back to a few places quite often.

In Sanctuary, build fortifications and put up gun turrets, the main attack points are in the north of the island behind the buildings to the left of the cul-de-sac as you're walking up to it, concentrate turrets there. The other two are the footbridge that leads to the vault, on the near side to the town, and south-west of the end of the main bridge, on the near shore. Just put a bunch of turrets near each location, the most powerful you can build at the time, and upgrade them as you get more materials and perks. Once you have them at laser and rockets, you'll not even have to lift a finger when you get an attack. And you will get attacked.

BinnZ, in case you don't know already, you can get rid of all the fallen trees, collapsed houses, picket fences, old tyres and yard rubbish laying around Sanctuary by "scrapping" them in Workshop mode.

To scrap an object: Go into Workshop mode, look straight at the object so it highlights, hit "R" to scrap it, then confirm. The object will disappear and the materials it was made of will be transferred to the Workbench. You also get XPs every time you scrap or build something.

Sanctuary will look a lot neater once all the *bleep* is gone, and it's the only place where, if you scrap the five collapsed houses, you'll have five nice big concrete slabs to build on. There's enough stuff at Sanctuary to provide a good heap of basic building materials - as I recall, there are about 4,000 "units" of Wood alone that can be collected there. That's if you're into building... Sure, you have to build some basics for your settlers, but generally you can just put stuff wherever. You don't have to meticulously plan out whole small towns. I do, but that's just my personal kink :gnehe:

You'll be able to buy and sell stuff soon, and you can buy and sell pretty much anything (I even sell my excess ammo). Keep an eye out for a woman named "Trashcan Carla". She comes and goes at Sanctuary and you can barter/trade with her. Now that you have stuff happening at Sanctuary, she should start turning up soon (she'll hang around in the street near the yellow house with the Workbench in it). You'll meet other traders later - some mobile, some in fixed locations.

I'll shut up now, I don't want to start bombarding you with tips and advice. I just wasn't sure if you knew about "scrapping" stuff around settlements and it's a fairly important thing to know.

Cheers, and have fun! O0

:)

Basically, Sanctuary can be shaped into what you want it to be. Leave it as it is (except for story-related mandatory stuff) or make it a place where you can make for instance a home (and shops) for traders of all sorts. They're specialised. Some sell *bleep*, others weapons, and others armour, some are medics, some are bar tenders.. whatever you need, pack it in there and build defences so you don't have to worry too much.

After a while you'll likely have too much stuff to carry around so you're probably not going to throw valuable stuff away but store it some place safe. Like, in Sanctuary.

It doesn't have to be fancy. You can keep it as simple as you wish or make it something special and elaborate :)

BinnZ

Thanx for the tips guys! I already found out about the 'scrapping' but I haven't done much with it yet. I thought that the most important parts for building, have to be found elsewhere. I was scrapping the cars around sanctuary and found out you 'only' get steel from them.
I put 2 turrets on the pilars at the end of the main bridge. They look cool but I have tiny turrets, still. I'll build out a bit there in Sanctuary, to make sure it's a good safe haven.
