Thanks to the modding community and a set of new tools FCModding.com, almost all Far Crys are now easily moddable 

I took advantage of this last summer and made some FC4 mods, tuning the game to my liking. Compared to the old unpack/repack method, the FC mod installer is much more cleaner. Yes, you still need to extract the source file to understand what you want to change. Rather than manually add modified files to a patch folder, the tool creates a new patch automatically for you

That's pretty cool, I remember back in FC2 having to load a sketchy external trainer to get mods like that, and you always wondered what other cargo was in that download you got from a weird website in eastern Europe.

I recall writing mods for FC2 and still use them during the infrequent times I play.  Really nice though, the AS50 is silent with extended range, and it is fun to sit at a long distance, kill a merc, and see the rest of them running around like chickens with their heads cut off because they have no idea where I am.
