Now, this is a concrete example of pecking order

I have a drilled log for a woodpecker feeder hanging from a wire out back. The little birds like red-breasted nuthatches and chickadees love it as well as three species of woodpeckers. They are so accustomed to me feeding them, it is often challenging to get them off the feeder so my wife can recharge it with a peanut butter/seed mix. Today was no exception.

When I took the feeder back outside to hang it I was expecting them to swarm me, but there was not a peep from them, however I could hear a hawk chirping in the tree down the hill. They were in hiding, and did not want the hawk to notice their presence.

Then the hawk stopped chirping and I glanced at a shadow high in the shy to see a Bald Eagle passing by.

I guess all birds know their place  :gnehe:
