I don't agree. New windows versions (you're probably referring to new updates for windows) usually close security holes and at least limit vulnerabilities. If you don't do that, you're open for exploits and hacks.

If I remember correctly, you avoided the more recent updates because a game didn't w0#k right anymore. I'd much rather wait for a game update/patch or ditch the game entirely if it meant a security risk (by not updating windows only to be able to play it)

The update caused my PC to freeze, when I used Chrome/Discord or any other program. Even tabbing out of a game freezed my computer. That was during the "early access" period.

Ahh.. well, I opted out. Although my pro version allows me to get those early updates when they're still beta, I didn't want my OS to be unreliable. I only get updates when they're "ready" just to prevent what you described. However, that really shouldn't have happened, a PC freezing up like that. You can opt out, too :)

Yeah. I could probably rephrase my sentence to: Don't install major updates on day 1, just wait until bugs and other problems have been sorted. Then install the update. ;)

Hey, I think I know why my laptop is struggling to go above 60 fps in GTA/other CPU bound titles: Windows 10 :banghead: Recent security updates are focusing on the Meltdown/Spectre backdoors... Which means more overhead on the CPU. :angry-new: Maybe that explains BinnZ's sudden frame drops, as those issues have been present in all of the Core CPUs from Intel for a long time. >:(

So if it is an issue with meltdown/spectre, then it's actually Intel's fault, and Microsoft is just trying to clean up the mess?

Isn't that what they are doing, though? I thought I read that the one fix would be to not use that part of the CPU or something to that effect, bypass it, and that would fix the issue, at a huge hit to performance though.

They are, but given the performance issue, that isn't a 100% fix. ;)
