bloody hell, your guide got a handful more views than mine! Crazy, over 2000 views each of our guides.. hehe

Nice posts, guys. Briefly, I too have enjoyed the civilised and friendly nature of the members that makes reading ANY topic a pleasure. There are no kindergarten-type of posts, no flaming wars, no dissing.. Also, any question would be answered nicely, it never mattered whether or not it had been answered before and neither did it matter if someone posted anything off topic. Before I became staff member, I was impressed that even they participated and were friendly as well as helpful. Which is why I felt honoured when asked to join the staff. Before I signed up as a member, I was so fed up with forums and clans and online gaming, actually anything online in general, that I had been voluntarily offline for more than a year. When I couldn't find any cheats for FC2 I had to try online and I was lucky to find this site almost instantly. At first I didn't want to fall back to going online but the quality of this site was attracting me, I kept returning and finally, almost like mandru, I just had to participate. I started the most massive FC2 post/topic and organised it with hyperlinks which inspired PZ to ask me to join the staff. Essentially, OWG has become an important part of my life and I wouldn't know how to replace it, if it ever came to that.

Having said that, LONG LIVE OWG

Riders

Once there was thise lonely rider, ahead of most, most of the time. A steady bunch of riders in his tail. And so he created a club. They called themselves travellers. Travellers they were. Travelling the land, wandering the deserts of the world, searching for loot, joy, or villains to shoot.

Humming and buzzing they thrived. Respectful. Enchanted even, sometimes swallowing a napkin or two. More riders joined. Different rides were introduced, new blinking skirts, coolant, exhaust, howling tires. More colour.

Although desert road was where they felt most comfortable, they explored. Mind boggling exercizes. Wall rides, tubes, tunnels. Rafters. And they organized.

They organized themselves. Mappers, road captains, scouts, freaks, dockers. And they sat.

They sat down and talked. Like grownups. Yes they did! Wherever they were, they could park them rides and sit. Peace pipe, bottle in front, they talked. Napkins. Whispers.

And they grew beards. 10 years. The struggles. They did. And they shared. New rides, new paths. And they welcome. New kids. Ample or plural or singular in sight. They welcome. Napkins.

10 years. And they ride on. With wisdom in their eyes. Humming. Steaming. Shaking hands.

We ride on.

Cheers :)

LinkHero

I joined about two years ago, when I wanted some idea about fc2 modding. I was a wet-behind-the-ears noob at the time, both at gaming and modding.(Case in point: I played Counter-Strike 1.6 with bots.) Since I discovered this place, my gaming prowess has grown, my modding ability (aka ability to stare at someone else's code and not grow disinterested) has also grown.

Here's to all the players out there who think vanilla is boring, and strive to improve upon the developer's *cough*UBI*bleep*-*bleep*'s*cough* w0#k. Happy early b'day, OWG!!!
Level up that health:
cuz dead men do no DPS.

Hey LinkHero, I must add, we had lots of fun with modding fc2   :beer2:

It is heartwarming to read how members found OWG, joined, and remained. Although we have a wide age range in our membership (I'm thinking GKID to Gord  :gnehe:), there is a core of us old guys that are close in age, and very similar in privacy concerns, and not too social in "real life". I'm perfectly happy spending time in front of my PC, was a programmer in a former life, and like to tinker with all things electronic, preferably alone.

It was a fortuitous sequence of events that started the old farcry2maps.com which was our free hosting version of our site designed just to display D_B's maps. We then needed a forum in which to communicate, and so started communications. Because things expanded beyond Far Cry 2, a name change and moving to more reliable hosting. One of you old timers correct me if I'm not recalling correctly, but I believe JRD came up with the beginnings of the name "open world games", thus beginning our journey to today.

You gents are entirely correct in saying it has been quite the ride.  O0

Bet that was quite unexpected :) I do remember the enjoyment of discovering the FC2 modding topic and testing them out.

Yes it was - I've always considered OWG an old guy club.  However, you are much more mature than your age suggests  O0

Well said PZ, I agree. Long live our youngest senior! :)
