Funny ones, D_B!

Yeah, perks can be used to carry more ammo - I'm carrying 9 shovels now (sure would like to see that in 3rd person).  :gnehe:

I also found a gun for hire names Suzie Conway who is a long range bow woman, and has two very good attributes:

  • Having her around allows me to carry more ammo
  • She automatically picks the plants needed to caft my consumables, just like Davy Jones

Dweller_Benthos

Yeah some of the random people have nice perks. I like the one that gets you more loot from dead bodies and the one that lets you carry more ammo, but so far I've never found one person that does both. Not that I've looked very hard, I haven't even hired a second person in this save, just the first one you meet in the tutorial.

I was poking around in the menus and this is a new option for dressing up your character:

$9000 or 500 silver bars? Are you kidding me? Once I get a ton of money again, maybe, but for a game where you rarely see your character, this type of thing is pretty pointless. About all it does is make you look different during online games and that's hardly worth it. But probably enough to some people to make those silver bars an attractive purchase. But not for me.

Found out that since the shovel launcher is considered a melee weapon, it works for the achievement to kill a bison with melee only. There are only a couple other achievements I can get in campaign mode, the rest are arcade mode only, but it's unlikely I'll get any of them, they are pretty obscure.

Yep, typical multiplayer stuff. Would've been cool if they gave special masks / outfits / tattoos or whatever to those who earn them, but apparently this is the way UBI*bleep* tries to sell some extra silver bars.

I've almost cleared Faith's region, need a couple tiny things to do and then I'll likely get the boss fight. I don't think I will do more than just go to the next region and free that too, nail Joseph and leave the game getting dusty on the shelve. I might try some arcade, maybe even coop, but the single player is a major let-down for me. I've been trying to find a way to explain that to myself; I think the biggest problem I have with the game is the dumbness. I constantly feel treated like a six year old. And when I'm not treated by any of them sp characters and am wandering on my own, I get a constant distraction by either gunned planes, all sorts of traffic on the roads or people begging to be freed. Oh, I almost forgot; either they call me 'rook' or they thank me on their knees for killing Jacob or helping on a shoot-out at the jail.

Something else that is a massive let-down are the outposts. I remember them being a challenge in FC3 and I remember you guys spoke of fortresses in FC4; super outposts that would require a certain approach or at least a descent preparation. In this game, the outposts I've come across are all the same. I can go in silent, take down the alarms, or go in guns blazing. It's a piece of cake. It's easier getting killed on a road fight than on taking over an outpost. And yes of course: When I dealt with every last peggy in the outpost, suddenly a convoy of resistance fighters moves in and wants to sell me *bleep*, or do their dirty w0#k like finding *bleep* or missing people along the way .
The whole story is cheap. The gameplay is repetitive and the world, that really is designed beautifully, is so full of *bleep* *bleep* that you never take the time to inhale the ambience of the game. There is no ambience. There's fishing rods, bearded creeps that beg for bullets and toe kissers that thank you for whatever silly thing you do. That's it. :angry-new:

Excellent. That is just such a lovely sales pitch :)

For each and every game that's not from UBI*bleep*.

come to think of it, I think the difference between FC2 and the follow-ups is that FC2 was focussed on single player. As soon as they found out that they can make more money with multiplayer, the franchise went down the drain regarding SP storytelling and replay value.

If you use the the furious consumable then a single hit from your meelee weapon will send they flying and challenge complete  :D

Dweller_Benthos

Yeah, I was trying to get the achievement to kill a bull with your bare hands and actually went out and beat one to death, but didn't get the achievement. So later on I was doing the quest to get better chems from Twerk or whatever his name is and then realized you can use the Fury chem to kill a bull, and I got the achievement immediately. I don't know if they intended for you to use the chem or just never thought anyone would take the time to beat a bull without it, but there you go, pretty easy. The Fury (or is it Furious?) chem is something I never used before, it's quite fun to run around killing everything with one punch. Got a grizzly bear problem? One punch. Now I think I'll try it with the fast chem and take out an outpost just using fists, might be fun.

I understand what Binn is saying as well, but really, that's pretty much any open world game nowadays. I was just thinking last night that UBI*bleep* saw how much money Rockstar is making off GTA online and wanted to convert over to that business model with Far Cry, and that's pretty much it. A single player game that exists to create a multiplayer system that can be used for microtransactions.

I've said before, the times I most enjoyed in the game were when I was out rambling around, either hunting or taking out random Peggy patrols. Raiding outposts is OK, but for the most part, not that exciting unless you're trying for a perfect stealth run, and the story leaves much to be desired, and on the second run I'm only engaging in when forced to.

My son and I went into an outpost yesterday and activated the furious and speed consumables. Using only our happy face shovels we blazed through the outpost sending cultists flying high and far - was very funny to see.  :D

I too am very happy now doing random things in the world like getting the Old Betsy rod and hunting challenges. No more RP to worry about, no abductions or other dumb stuff.

I watched a recent Jim Sterling video, where he talks about the positiveness of console exclusivity and game quality. Apparently, they go well in hand. Hell i think that's why GTA Online is still going strong, for good and bad (Take Two and R* business execs probably said "screw SP DLC, let's make a mcirotransaction based grinder") ::)

So the new weekly challenge is to play featured maps in arcade mode for 40 minutes. That's not too bad, but it's really not obvious what maps are featured. After poking around, any of the ones in the main menu, I guess? I wonder this because I played a good two hours last night on some maps and got no credit for it under the weekly challenge.  :banghead:

This is after closing the game, relogging into Uplay, making sure the challenge is activated, etc etc. So I go back and try accessing the arcade from one of the machines in an outpost that the annoying guy is always playing. I run a map that I've done several times, as it's good sniper practice, kill all the enemies, and then check the progress bar in the weekly challenge screen. Yep, two minutes added. So, I don't know if it's a general bug in the arcade itself (reddit posts seem to suggest that it can miss things, but usually in my experience it does catch up after a few minutes) or it only works when activating arcade from a machine in game and not from the menu.

So if you're going after the weekly challenge, be sure to use an arcade machine in game and not the menu just to be sure. Oh, and I guess from what reddit says, if you don't want to play arcade maps, you can just load one and AFK for 45 minutes and it will count as you playing the map.

The rewards this week are a new pistol (woohoo! /s) and a new outfit, the deputy one if the character is female, and the US Marshall if the character is male.
