you can do that here. In your profile.

Just did, I wonder if the place I had it hosted, my old dial up ISP, is no longer interested in having personal web pages, I don't see any info on it on their site, and anything I try to access on those pages just gets a 404 now. For the last couple weeks I got the "This page is being migrated" notice.

If they drop personal web pages, I have no real need for them, as I think I've changed all my e-mail to the new ISP, so I can stop paying them $20 a month for nothing.

The old dial-up providers are things of the past, and the term "AOL" should apply to them all - prehistoric dinosaurs waiting to turn into oil.

Besides, there are plenty of free alternatives to having web pages.

Dweller_Benthos

I was mostly using the personal web space they provide as a download storage space for people to grab files I had uploaded. This was before services like media fire were common or free.

So, what was supposed to happen? lol

I kept thinking about the vid. And your question. You see, this video shows what you don't see when I'm prepared and go for the final run. Like one of the last Elusive Targets, you asked whether or not the gas tank blew her up. You asked because you never saw it happen, which was the whole purpose for me as the player: make it happen but be far from it when it happens, and escape moments after it happened. My newest video was the exact opposite. We watched that lamp blow up and kill the target. We even waited quite some time there to see something happen there. I was expecting to see the target come and go without any explosion because I thought it likely had to be the wrench to sabotage the lamp with. Hehe, so we watched the murder as it happened and then made our way to the exit. Calm as a coma, I might add :gnehe:

Nice, now that you explain it, it would be cool if they had a replay function like Ride 2 where you can replay the mission in movie director mode, make cool camera angles and cuts to make an interesting little movie of it, and to get to see the action you might miss while actually playing the game.

Yeah, that would be really cool - I enjoy seeing the variety of methods you use to achieve your goals.

a replay function combined with a director's mode / editor option, wow, that would be cool for videos. :)

But it would be so far off the original game's intent and purpose.. you'd be able to see, as a player, what you couldn't see while playing normally. Playing normally would be hearing sounds from behind the wall and the editor would allow you to just look over or even through the wall.. essentially I'm describing a drone with camera here, I just realised.

Now, keeping those thoughts in mind, coming to PZ's joy watching different methods.. I think we have three different scenarios.

One is what you usually see when I publish a successful hit on an Elusive Target or other targets: You see me setting up a trap and then you see me finishing the mission without seeing what the heck had been going on in the back. Those vids are more for those people who play hitman, got the same mission ahead, but don't know how to tackle it. They'll watch how I solved it. They'll know the in-between and understand why something is going on, what is going on in the background and so on, they don't need to watch the targets die, they just want to get the job done, quickly, preferably without any risk or at least just a minimal risk.

Two, you see me execute someone. Like, a sniper kill. And you see me finishing the mission, done. Pretty straight forward.

And three, there is, simply put, path-finding. Learning the map. Learning guards' patrol routes, timings of all kinds. Trial and error. Failure. Observation. Perhaps research, like watching someone else playing it, getting ideas from that. All of the aforementioned isn't really interesting for anyone to watch which is why you hardly find any videos of that stuff except recorded or live streams that allow you to observe everything.

So, my recent video I think wasn't so horrible because it went quite straight forward, got a desired result and the finish was also smooth. I could have pretended it to be like that on purpose but it wasn't. I wouldn't keep my music on, for once. Not that I expect any copyright problems, it's most likely too far away from any mainstream as that anyone would actually go for copyright infringements. However, I didn't want to mute the vid. I couldn't replay the mission because the trade mark of Elusive Targets is to be a singular event that will terminate on either your or the target's death. My target just so happened to die at the first not even serious attempt which was the funny bit, I really didn't expect that. All I wanted to see was whether or not the lamp could be sabotaged with a shot from the sniper rifle.. now we all know that it works. :gnehe: And because of all that, I just played the joker card and published it despite the music and despite the weird circumstances.. because I successfully eliminated an Elusive Target, on top with Silent Assassin and even Suit Only rating. :gnehe:

Dweller_Benthos

Yeah, maybe the movie director mode could only be used after you've completed the mission, though I suppose you could still use it to gain knowledge on how things are timed and whatnot. Maybe you have to place an invisible to the target camera(s) in certain places you know you want to get video footage of, then use that. Nice to think of, but I doubt that would be something the devs would add.

hey D_B, I just now came across a video with the full story and all the details you were looking for, or at least a lot of details. Here's what "really" happened :)

Dweller_Benthos

Interesting, I take it they used some kind of no AI command to get all that dialog? There sure is a lot that you'd really never see or hear in the normal course of the game.

So, instead of walking up to the lamp with a wrench, you just shot it? Nice and efficient.

That is the same beach house that the other missions takes place in, right? New owners? lol I can hear the real estate agent "Yes, there was an *accidental* death here, but it's all been cleaned up and made tidy, don't worry"
"You've read it, you can't un-read it."

:D

Yes, it's the same house, and yes, different people there for this singular event called Elusive Target.

And yes, it's impossible to get this footage without using a trainer. To my knowledge there are no cheats in this game but after that vid I searched the web, found one trainer from WeMod.com and scanning it with the online antivirus collection Virus Total showed 6 (out of like 60) engines giving warnings. The engines that detected it as malware were not among the major products so they may have overshot there, but still. I then checked Reddit and someone there said he couldn't find anything about the developers except that the company behind WeMod was on a black list for malware. So I didn't run any risks and removed it without ever testing it. I don't like trainers anyway, it was just because of the vid that I was interested. Would indeed be cool to be able to run about unnoticed, invisible to any AI, but well.. I'll rather stick to the normal ways. :)

And yes, thank you, now you've understood my plan: bullet instead of wrench. I would have been far away, next to the exit, if it hadn't set off and killed the Elusive Target while I was testing it. Of course I could have tested it somewhere else, different mission and map, but well. In the end it worked

Dweller_Benthos

Yeah trainers by their very nature set off AV scanners because AV scanners look for things that modify the existing code in another program, and that's exactly what trainers do, modify the code of a running program (the game) to give you the results you want. Whether they are doing something else more nefarious as well, that's another kettle of fish. I only ever used the FC2 trainer to turn off AI to get the diamond videos more easily, and to fool around with infinite ammo and such, and it came from a semi-reliable source, but then, if someone is hacking a game to make cheats, it's pretty easy to make it do something else too.

Agreed, sounds like a pretty risky proposition.

Art Blade

I don't want to risk my PC/security just because of a silly game so I don't use any trainers. I was simply interested in how that guy could have done his "story" vid.

Well, here's a new one I just recorded. Damn, it was hard to get it done.. it took countless attempts, the AI kept doing random stuff that screwed up my game, mostly they kept spotting me. I could have chosen a different approach but I wanted just this one, so I had to blind the x-ray vision of the AI using a flash grenade :evil2:
Sorry about the lags in the vid, I only noticed after uploading. I really hadn't got the nerve anymore for a new attempt so I'll keep it. This 8:24 OBS recording is only 186MB while the last one with the sniper shot at the gas lamp was a 5:43 D3DGear recording and used up 1.28GB.. just saying. However, my next PC will be more powerful so hopefully I can record smoothly with OBS ;)
