I went and killed the scientist for the Sublight chick. I wasn't too happy with that mission, there seemed to be no way out of it if you wanted to advance and keep working for sublight. According to the wiki, the other options to let her be and convince her to w0#k with Phineas made no difference except that you retain reputation with the board but lose it with sublight. Pavarti wasn't too happy with it either. Seems to me there should be a way around that, let her live but she has to stay out of the way and then lie to Sublight about killing her or something. I mean the w0#k she was doing seemed admirable if a little heavy handed on the way to go about it.

Also went to meet Ellie's parents, which was strange to say the least. So a few more side missions on Byzantium and then off to get Ellie her insurance money and then on to something else. Oh yeah there's the chick that Phineas wants me to meet, but whatever, that's a main mission, and who cares about those?  :D

I let that scientist live and lied to sublight. The difference is that you don't get your reward from sublight (some coat or whatever gear it was) but the quest line ends with it anyway.

Dweller_Benthos

Ah the wiki didn't make it obvious you could do that. Oh well. I'm not too worried about staying on the good side of the Board, something tells me they aren't going to like the way I end things lol. I don't even know what the choices are yet, but I'm sure I won't be going on their side.

On another note, I'm kind of bummed the new rifle I bought can't be modified, as in you can't add mods to it, so no silencer for those stealthy kills.

Maybe I was lucky to play it "blind" as in, without any hints, spoilers, clues, vids or wikis. ;) Interesting that "my" way wasn't described in "your" wiki, though. It's not as if the game was brand new.

I only know that you get a reward because I loaded a save and played it the way that I killed that scientist and from then on all the way to the sublight end again. Didn't like killing her, either, so reverted to my original path thanks to save games. :)

Art, I tried to accomplish the same end for that mission by sparing the scientist with the intention of lying to Lilya Hagen the head of Sublight.  But when the time came I had to tell Lilya the truth and was fired with prejudice.

There wasn't even a darkened line of dialog that showed that a Lie option existed but was available because I failed to meet the requirements.  At that point in the game I could have used the Sublight VP Armor.

It had some desirable stat boosts.

Laminated Armor: N-ray Armor Rating:5
Dialog: +10
Leadership: +10

And If I'm not mistaken Sublight completely shunned me (though my approval with them far outweighed the negative) and they failed to render assistance during the endgame sequence.

Not that I needed them.  :evil2:

Maybe I didn't lie to them but the result was the same: having spared the scientist, I never got the reward and was fired. During that playthrough I didn't even realise that they'd have sent reinforcements for the endgame because I managed to infiltrate the prison.

The next playthrough I had all the support when I raided the prison instead.

Dweller_Benthos

Ah I see Art has replied while I was typing. That makes my first few sentences moot now, lol.

The reason I look on the wiki for things like that is I want to decide ahead of time what I want to do instead of going back and forth with save games, trying to keep track of which one resulted in which outcome. The options listed in the wiki

https://theouterworlds.fandom.com/wiki/The_Chimerist%27s_Last_Experiment

seem to be what Mandru and I saw, you either kill her or not, and killing her gets the reward and continued w0#k with Sublight, and not killing her gets you booted from Sublight and a some rep with the board. Or actually, just not getting negative rep with the board, I don't think letting her live gets you a rep boost with them.

I'll have to check and see if I got the VIP armor, I didn't notice when I finished the mission what I got.

I finished the game 2x on xbox, but haven't played the dlc yet....anyone?

Art Blade

yep, I played it before the main story's finale. It is both massive (not just "another side mission and done") and a lot of fun with tons of cool loot.

mandru

KingRat I think you'll enjoy the DLC.  It's best to hold off on the DLC until right before you hit the endgame on the main mission.

By then you will have sharpend your survival skills and can look forward to some challenging game play and picking up some excellent gear upgrades for yourself and companions.

Still working my way through the game, got a question on a backpack mod for armor, maybe someone (Art? lol) will know, I have two of the same armor mod, one is pristine, it has the diamond icon, plus another icon I don't know what it represents, the other mod is just the normal version:

They both seem to have the same description and stats, +20 carry capacity. The only difference I noticed is the pristine one with the extra icon also shows the "Repair" option when you hover over it (bottom of the screen) the "normal" one doesn't. Hitting the repair button does nothing. Just wondering any idea what the deal is with the pristine one? Should I use it? Save it? Sell it?

it is really strange that a mod needs repairs, particularly strange because if you think about it, that wouldn't be a "pristine" item any more if it needed repairs. But yeah.. that's just splitting hairs. I don't think that a mod can be repaired so don't bother wasting good repair materials on that item.

However: mods only do what they're supposed to do, no matter their condition. I'd sell pristine stuff unless it's a weapon or armour that you actually want to use (they degrade less quickly) because "pristine" means that it's significantly more valuable.

Dweller_Benthos

Yeah trying to "repair" it does nothing anyway. It's only worth 46 bits anyway, so that wouldn't make or break me at this point by selling it or not. Still wondering what the other icon means, there's nothing on the wiki I can find about what those are. I've seen other ones on some things too, unless there's an explanation in game about them.

if you find any and post a screenie, I might be able to tell what it is :)

mandru

The only thing I've observed with the Pristine (diamond symbol) is that it can be sold for more and one web site says that pristine armor or weapons have 20% more durability.

I'm wondering if the Repair icon on that mod upgrades the armor it's applied to.  Maybe it creates a condition where it either uses less armor parts when being repaired or possibly it might add additional durability.

To test that thought you could make a save point and see if applying this mod to an armor piece that is not carrying either of the pristine or repair symbols and see if it upgrades the status icons of that item.  You can always go back to the save point to undo the test if it just wastes the mod.

It is odd to see this symbol appear on an armor mod without some kind of functionality intended by the game designers.  :undecided-new:

If I'm not mistaken I believe one of my stats or possibly one of the perks (armor master) gives me the benefit that when I repair or tinker a piece of gear at a workbench there is a chance that the item will convert to becoming pristine.
