I'm sure this was answered a long time ago, but why is it that some of the safehouse icons on your map flash, and others do not. I've noticed this with both locked, and unlocked ones.

Also, not a question, but an observation, AFAIK, all the gun jeep personnel in the game are white guys, which is weird, since there's lots of Black mercs. In fact, i don't recall seeing any Blacks driving any vehicle, or boat, except the taxi guy in the opening sequence.

I believe the safehouse most convenient for you to go to flashes, but I am not completely sure.

spaceboy

I always saw the flashing, but never realized what it meant, thanks Roaven.

As for the driving, Ricamundo's observation and comment on the taxi driver reminds me of a discussion back on fc2world how it would have been interesting to be able to get through (some) guard posts with bribes.  The taxi driver says he'll bring the guards beer... btw, that is considerably interesting regarding the lack of black drivers - that would be a major oversight by those ole' Canadians.

I'm not completely sure but I've found several where other mercs have taken up residence outside of the safehouse.  It does not have to be unlocked but there is someone trespassing at your spot.  I'll sneak up, kill them and then go in again.
The sun is over the yardarm somewhere in the world..time for a beer :)  :)

I've seen mercs wander into the safe house area as well. It's always best to watch the outside animation for any sneaky mercs who might come by while you're sleeping.

I also surprised a merc who was wandering around outside the marina bar one time.

I've encountered the marina merc several times now; he is probably the one in the old Datsun on the route at the cross roads out of the marina - one time he followed me to the top of the hill and stopped.  Good, I figured... went into the armory for resupply and heard the sound of a grenade blast outside - he was still trying to find me!

Dweller_Benthos

I saw a merc in the north stop his car, get out, and wander right up to my safe house, walk around back, and sit down for a while. Cheeky buggar.

pzrzao.. they will come and check whenever they hear you making a ruckus. Well, I make a huge mess when I buy a new gun and see all those barrels and ammo piles around me at the marina...
As for the safehouses icons, I found a flashing one yesterday. One I haven't cleared yet, open and unguarded, south of Dogon Village.
I remember that one you go to meet your buddy on a subverted mission. Think maybe that's why some of them do flash?

Funny, mentioning about wandering mercs. I trudged up a hill to an unlocked safehouse yesterday, and was surprised to see 2 mercs camped out near the fire. Cheeky buggers indeed!

Most of us have probablt played the game long enough to know this by now, but I´ll answer the question for all newcomers ;). The flashing safehouse icon tells you where your rescue buddy is, in case you need to revisit them after having been rescued.

Actually deadman, I had not realized that (or if I did, I've forgotten).  Never hesitate to post tips, even it's addressed - it may be buried.  Thanks for the info.

Dweller_Benthos

I'll have to look into that, I just ignore the ones that flash, figuring that's the ones that are open without having to unlock. Good observing.

I thought that too... the ones flashing are those you don't have to clear because you will meet your buddy there eventually... well observed  :-X

I'll echo the prior posts deadman,

I did not know this tidbit either!

I also met the Marina merc yesterday, after i decided to go on a bit of a spending spree and buy a few of the weapons i haven't really tried yet, like the AS50. I was testing it outside the marina, and went back in the gun room to reload. When i came out he was hiding near the door. Scared me nearly to death. ;)

I've noticed that the flashing safehouse is "following" you. I was in the middle of one sector with safehouses to the left and right. I was closer to the one to the left and it flashed, so I moved to the right, then the flashing one was to the right too. I went in there and met my rescue buddy who needed "activation".

I specifically went into a safe house this morning and saw Nasreen who announced that she would be my rescue buddy - good to know about these flashing icons.

I've been using the AS50 more these days because I'm into setting off the flammables in GPs and other areas.  I alsu used the large sniper to set an assault truck afire from quite a distance - 3 shots and the black smoke started.

Hacko

I've always figured that the flashing safe house icon meant that it was the closest safe house to your present position.

Dweller_Benthos

I went into a couple flashing safe houses and saw nothing special, except a couple had weapons that don't get unlocked until later (the AS50 being one) but the others had nothing in them.

Same here - I took notice to go into the flashing safe houses and did not notice anything special, but maybe it means that something is different, like the presence of a buddy, or a weapon (or other resource) that is unique to that safe house.

RedRaven

drove around with map in hand, appears the flashing icon is to tell you which is the closest safe house, locked or unlocked.
Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raido, Kenaz, Gebo, Wunjo, Hagalaz, Nauthiz, Isa, Jera, Eithwaz, Perth, Algiz, Sowilo, Tiwaz, Berkano, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Ingwaz, Othila.

PZ

Sounds like a reasonable reason to have a flashing icon!

Finally managed to "shoot" one... Yes, there are black drivers  :)
