Jump that bumper!

I've found that when a merc driver is coming towards me with the intent to run me down I can jump up directly to the hood of his vehicle with only slight damage.

I just tested this with an AT. I was standing in the middle of the road on a straight stretch so he could clearly see me and gun his engine to come after me. As he got to me I jumped and landed on his hood and even though the gunner was trying to shoot me once I'd shot the driver the gunner immediately tried to switch to the driver position sliding directly into where my AS50 was already aimed and I suddenly owned a brand spanking new AT. OK it was slightly used but still...

If the bumper had touched me my buddy would have been making a rescue but with a good jump I can save the rescue buddy for something a little more difficult.  :-X

This might be worth a tryout if you've got steady nerves and good timing.  ;)

Try that with a big truck and you'd likely end up as a bug splat on the grill.  ;D

Good find mandru - another thing to try in the FC2 world  :-X

hehe, stylish, mandru  ;D :-X cheers for sharing!  :)

gotta love the merc who leaves the mounted gun to drive while your standing there shooting them...  "Well crap, that fella there on the hood just shot my driver...someone's gotta drive this thing!"

It's kind of sad that his retirement was so closely proceeded by that unfortunate field promotion.  ;D

lol, if I ever get my video capture hooked back up, I'll try to make a vid of that trick, sounds like fun.

Jump the hood and shoot the hood

Mandru, I tried this last nite, but alas, it was not to be.  Apparently, it is a bad idea to try and juggle your ps3 controller, D-B's excellent map, and a glass of whisky at the same time.  Now that I think about it though, maybe the booze was really the only culprit...my reflexes are certainly not what they used to be, and when dulled by alcohol... ;)

mandru

When I tried this trick I was square in the middle of the road and he came straight at me so there weren't any oblique angles involved in my jump. I was also running towards him so that the length of my jump when I made it would be as stretched out as far as possible for every bit of hang time I could gain.

Also where I'm on a PC, I can make a save at any point through the game and on a moments notice as opposed to the tougher row you guys on the PS3 have to hoe by only being able to make saves at the safe houses and at other key spots. The difference being I don't get nearly as beat up as PS3 users do.

I've also tried jumping into the open flat bed at the back of the AT by hiding in concealment at a turn around spot on one of their patrols but the only thing that came from that was the two mercs piled out quickly and started shooting at me.

The AT merc's reaction at my trying to hitch a free ride was kind of like the early American president Abraham Lincoln's experience where he was speaking to an impromptu group of people in a small town while mounted on horse back for elevation so that the crowd could see him better.

He had pulled one of his feet out of the stirrup and crossed his leg across in front of the saddle horn to be more comfortable and also so he could twist a bit sideways so that he wasn't trying to talk to the people assembled there over the impatient horse's bobbing head.

The horse, becoming bored of standing there began to fidget and while stamping and shifting it's feet it eventually managed to kick one of it's rear hoofs up and into the stirrup left open by Lincoln's seating arrangement.

Being a true man of words and action Lincoln quickly slid off the other side of the horse and quipped "If you're getting on, I'm getting off!" (Humorous but wise words and one of my favorite Lincoln quotes   ;D )

Of course, you could always just hop into the drivers seat and steal their rig - driving off while looking back at them standing in the road fuming would be hilarious.  ;D

Great story about Lincoln - I've not read that one before  :-X

I've finally been able to get the shortcut line edit ignore cheat to w@&k in conjunction to the god mode on my PC and I've been spending almost all of my time going back to various saves and rampaging with and with out ignore just for the fun of it.

Unfortunately it's been to the exclusion of almost all storyline play.  :-[  Sowwy. :(

Something I've come across in the topic of this thread is that when you jump the bumper and land on the hood you can squat and plant an IED on the windshield.  Funny enough the IED vanishes from where you place it but looking behind the vehicle there it is following along, hovering in mid air, about 6 to 8 feet behind the back bumper like a shark waiting for just the right moment to strike.

This works great where the vehicle drives directly through a populated GP, that is if on occasion under the light of a full moon you should ever go rampaging.  ;)

I love wandering around with the ignore_player cheat in effect - brings a whole new dimension into the game as you can watch the mercs do their daily chores and drive by without giving you a second glance.  The only thing I wish could be done is to invoke the cheat while you're traveling to a mission location, and then go into normal play when you arrive.  This would allow you to drive throughout the countryside enjoying the scenery, minding your own business until you arrive at your destination and then make the mercs your business.

You could always invoke the cheat by starting with the appropriate game start short cut, drive unnoticed and enjoy your scenery, get to where you want to become noticed again at which point you can save your progress and then log out and restart using the game start short cut that gives you the play style you want.

At least I think that would do what you said you wanted.  I may have misunderstood.

No, you have it correct  :-X

Not a bad idea - I could stop, then go get a cup of coffee while the game reloads  ;)

Art Blade

I did that, change of shortcuts and fire up the game with different cheats. It's ok if you are fed up with one set of cheats and want a change, but it may be a little annoying if you think of doing it every other minute.

Hmm...

I guess the switch over is time consuming and hadn't considered that.  I compared the time spent when I sneak up to a position before an assault on a target and trying to single out isolated mercs to knock off as many as possible before an alert is sounded.

Sometimes I've waited as long as 10 minutes for perfect conditions to take that first shot.  So I guess the time element that's not a problem for me might be annoying to others.

Sorry I didn't take that into consideration before popping off a glib solution to PZ and his wanting to be able to take his time traveling and being able to stop and smell the gelignite when it suits him.  ;)

No no no, you don't want to be sorry. I can't think of a better solution.  :)

Indeed, mandru - I truly appreciate the suggestion because it adds another dimension to the game  :-X

mandru

I've just found out that if you jump the bumper on one of the jeeps to place an IED for some reason the game mechanics will shift you up to the roof making placement of the IED much tougher.

When in combined god and ignore modes I've found that it's easier to crouch in the path of an oncoming jeep and let it hit you and in that instant plant the IED on the front grill.  Once placed slip sideways out of the way and the jeep will continue on it's patrol.

The IED will disappear and its location shifts to the following shark description I noted above.  It has something to do with the moving and occupied vehicle part of the game mechanics but it still does the job and that's what matters.

I've seen a shark IED myself once and thought it was very funny to watch. What I like to do with ignore +/- god mode is to lure patrols into stopping their car and getting out to investigate, also if they did that on their own without my doing. Just place one or more IEDs on their vehicle and wait until they get back in again and drive away. To me it is utter fun and it is also very satisfactory to push the button when they are almost out of sight... and watch them blow up with a sinister growl rather than a loud, ear-splitting explosion  ;D

Yeah, that is fun, got a video of it, just after one minute in this clip:

I had to replay parts of that several times because it was too much fun to let go by in a single viewing.  ;D
