Help needed: Free Fall challenges

For some reason all I hit is the first circle after the race starts, and then.. I drift away hopelessly. I once tried a challenge that led along a mountain and the rings were at an angle that was almost horizontally.. I never get to do those!

Any advice would be very welcome, what do you do to solve them and are there tips what to do with the keyboard/mouse (or, if on console, what moves do you perform)?

I'd like to read techniques as well - I've not completed any of the free fall challenges yet, but that is mostly because the first one I tried was so unsuccessful, it scared me off of the rest of them.  ;D

which revealed to me that one is allowed to use the chute! That explains why I'd never made it through horizontally scattered rings, lol  :D

so true Art - I didn't realize I could use the chute early on and gave up on them.  Then I did one at the casino and just opened the chute more out of habit than thinking about it.  It was like a ton of bricks hitting me... "OH! I can use my parachute!!".

I haven't any since that but when I do I will be using my chute when needed.

I'm still too afraid of those free fall challenges (after spending a horrible amount of times failing) but I'll do some eventually. Then I'll probably use the chute too early  ;D

I wound up doing about 4 of these last night and found them quite exhilarating once I got the feel for it.

The last times I did them (before I knew about the chute) were rather cruel. Every time I kind of landed but the impact crunched all my bones and left a huge red mark on the ground  ;D

I've been doing races of all types to get to the 50 challenges trophy and enjoying them so much.  There was a flying one that takes you between the casino towers and then down between the bridge and waterfall (a tight downward squeeze) and then a couple bridge limbos to top it off - in the words of Assassin's Creed 2's Leonardo daVinci "How exciting!". 

One flying race I did late at night (my skills were waning) I missed a couple checkpoints having to circle back, even had a missile locked on me at one point (I was in the small airhawk propeller plane!).  One I had to circle back on was the second to last which I picked up with 3 seconds left and then cruised on to the finish.  Really fun!  :)

Nice!  :) I too want to get that achievement and I've got 31 challenges so far, most of which are car races. Some boat and plane races too.
