Don't worry about being slow. It just means that reality has a fair chance to catch up with you  ;D

One of the distressing things about becoming old!

I feel like JRD - looking down the barrel of a gun is far more rewarding than shooting from the hip.  Although I did not use the iron sights mod in FO3 (because the iron sights mod was developed for the vanilla guns and wouldn't w@&k with the weapons mod I was using), I wish that I could have.

Just an aside - I'm trying to remember which was the first game I ever played that featured ironsights. I think it was Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault. I wasn't crazy about the game, but I thought the ironsighting was an excellent innovation at the time.

Art Blade

I think I used ironsights already back in the day of my C64, which means like 25 years ago.. LOL

The first game I recall featuring iron sights was the original Operation Flashpoint: Cold War crisis, back is 2001... which was also the first FPS featuring vehicles... a revolutionary game, I must say!  ;)

Really? Ironsighting's been around much longer than I thought then.

I never got into that one, but it pre-dates MoH Pacific Assault. Geez, what else did I miss? Actually, don't tell me... ????

Art Blade

OK, I won't, then.

But man.. thinking back.. all those GREAT things.. whoa.. and oh gosh..

Well.. you didn't miss a thing -- it was nothing, really.

Just a little update on my general impressions and progress in the last few days..

I finally solved that annoying VATS message. After posting a query on the nexus forums, someone responded, saying simply enter VATS once, to clear the info window that pops up on first usage, and from then on its gone. Sheesh im such a moron! :-[ I had forgotten that i did try VATS a few times in FO3, then quickly stopped using it as i thought it gimmicky. So i opened it once in NV then quickly closed it, job done.

I picked up a couple of companions, no not the dog, although there is one in the game. This time, besides my Ghuol sidekick who isa Latino named Raul, i repaired a hovering little robot named  ED E who has started following me around as well. 8)

I cant get over how many different quest lines there are in NV. Even a few conversations with various folks will usually net several side quests. Ive gotten side tracked, delayed, waylayed(but, sadly, not laid) and gone on various goose chases, both wild and rather tame, that ive forgotten what the main quest was. ;D So ive basically been adding a few mods, such as Fellout NV, The Weapons House, and a couple of specific gun mods that i rather like, although i have to say the vanilla weapons are both interesting and diverse, and the ability to mode several of then makes em even better.

One other thing i appreciate in NV is that the travelling merchants, of which there are many, and even little out of the way store vendors have way more caps with which to trade than in FO3. Some ive come across have 5-8,000 caps.

I discovered a medical clinic in the Vegas suburbs where for quite a lot of caps, you can get several different implants, which can improve your strength, perception, luck, intelligence, etc, so i indulged in a few of them just for shits n giggles. ;)

On the not so great side, its unfortunate that Bethesda seems to have gotten a tad lazy with NV, re using a hell of a lot of objects, and buildings from FO3, and many of them are boarded up, so you can enter. There's still a lot of places to explore, but i keep walking thru very familiar buildings all over. Also, many boxes, lockers, and cabinets are empty. I remember wondering how the hell i was supposed to scavenge enough stuff to make some serious caps in theis game, as early on, stuff to find and sell is hard to find.

One more thing that is annoying in the vanilla game, is that so many things that i'd like to scavenge are in red, in other words, im thgieving a lot, even if ive just killed some fiends, or other baddies, and then going in to take the spoils. Now i know theres a mod that eliminates this but its kind of annoying that i need a mod to take what is rightfully mine in many cases. This goes for beds in which to sleep too. Most are owned, even  dead baddies beds are off limits to me.

Oh well im still enjoying the game immensly, despite the odd crash. I guess it wouldnt be Fallout without crashes. ::)

Good read, Ric - I'm not as far into the game as you because I'm having most of my fun with the mods (like usual) so reading your adventures gives me something to look forward to.

Thx PZ. :-X I hadnt actually intended to enter The Strip yet, but following what i thought was a side quest, turned out to be the main quest that i had left several days, and quests ago, so there i am. I havent been there long enough to se it @ night, but its pretty cool so far.

The myriad ways of interacting with people, factions, and robots is a little too much of a muchness, if you get my drift. Im not sure if i want to take over, kill everyone, or what i usaully do, just muddle thru, since this is the first playthru. I also dont want to go down the main quest route too far, as i understand, like FO3, once you complete the MQ, that's it, you cant go back to finish side quests.

BTW, there's a cool gun shop on the Strip, forget the name, as usual, but their speciality is mods for guns. very cool! I spent quite a sum in there. ;D Oh, and i haven't even bothered with card games, or crafting, and im not sure i ever will, not this playthru anyways.

You're correct - so much to do it is difficult to determine where to start.  :-()

I tried a bit of blackjack, but got royally thrashed, losing all the chips I'd purchased - funny how quickly you can burn through your cash.

Then I had better luck in my first try at gambling, I left the casino 600 caps richer  ;). Oh one more tip; on the Strip you can see some magazine vendors (red boxes), activating them gives you a random skill magazine for free  :-X

@Ric: Do you have any clue as to where on the strip it was? I there right now and my guns really need some upgrades.

Ricamundo

Deadman, im sorry, but that gun shop is a mod that i'd forgotten i had installed, and its not on the Strip, but in Freeside. If you install the mod, it takes over one of the many boarded up buildings and turns it into a place called "Cums Guns and Casino. BTW, in your Beware Bugs thread, i mentioned one quest that this mod seemed to screw up, at least for me anyway, so if you install it, you may have to deactivte it at least once.

There are so many abandoned buildings, and unused land in the vanilla FONV, that im sure there will be a TON of mods made to open them up, thus releasing a torrent of potential bugs. We'll have to see what happens i guess. Really, the Bethesda people sure seemed to be lazy with the implementation of this game. :-\

Oh and there I was running up and down the strip like a headless chicken looking for it  :-(). Lucky for me that I´ve already done the quest your mod corrupted so I won´t have to worry about that.
