ARC gaming put a few reasonable videos together:

Here's the Fallout New Vegas opening cut scene.  I rather like the initial music in the game - reminiscent of Fallout 3 with a new twist.

This one shows the first part of the game which sets the stage for the first quest:

A couple of guys are playing through the first quest - here's their commentary:

About the song "Blue Moon"

This blues was written in 1934 by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. You'll see that there were many versions and interprets who played it.. like Billy Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis, and I'll quote from the guy who performs in the vid below,

QuoteIn 1967, Eric Clapton used a portion of the song in his guitar solo from Cream's hit "Sunshine of Your Love." Bob Dylan covered the song on his Self Portrait album in 1970. In 1978, an arrangement by Jeff Funk was used in the film Grease. This has been followed by a country version from The Mavericks. More recently, it has been recorded by Rod Stewart.

He plays it as a ballad, and the girl in the vid below him as a blues (ignore the visual quality, stick to the audio.. the girl plays it really cool.)

Nice vids... the graphics are pretty good, not top notch but good graphics!

But one thing looks really awful: when you go 3rd person your character seems to hover or glide through the ground as if he was ice skiing  ????

The two chaps even make a commentary about that in the 2nd vid!

While the cut scene graphics are good, the game play graphics are old school FO3 in my opinion.  Sure, they may be a bit better than the original (mostly colors), but the basic textures appear to be the same.  Non the less, I really enjoy playing the game.

I just found this video describing New Vegas - I don't have enough caps to get in yet.  However, after watching this, I'm eagerly anticipating my first visit!  Evidently the developers put much time and effort into this aspect of the game, and this is probably where FNV departs from it's predecessors.

Looks impressive! :-X

I assume FO3 had nothing like it, am I correct? For what I've seen of FO3 it was DC wasteland where you just wander and meet people and noteworthy places to get quests and all but this time there is New Vegas and everything orbits the place, which is a homebase as well as a story driver!

Looking forward to see how it develops... this title seem much more interesting!  ;)

there was nothing like it in FO3. :)

Once you guys playing FNV reach the strip I'd like to know how big the impact is on the vid card, like notable drop in frame rates. I suspect that might happen. Cheers :)

I'd likw to know how big is the impact on story and gameplay!  ;D

I guess you probably spend a good 20-25% of the game to get there, but once you reach NV, then the game starts to shine (no pun intended)  ;D

OMG what a difference between FO3 and FNV!  :o

When I first fired up the game and played through the initial parts I thought to myself that this was simply a continuation of the original - how wrong I was.  I finally earned enough caps to go in, and once I did, it is like being in a restored city.  I tracked one of the bad guys to his home casino, and you'd never know that there were the hovels of the waste land outside the gates of Vegas.

There was no perceptible difference in video performance once I entered New Vegas - it played just like it did outside.  In fact, there were places out in the desert that were way worse when it comes to performance degradation.  However, I am using the mod that is said to increase the frame rate up to 4 times - and I have noticed a huge improvement, even though my settings are now set to ultra high.

thanks for the valuable info, PZ  :-X :) Enjoy playing :)

Thanks, AB - I hope that my exuberance doesn't lead to disappointment, but so far, so good!  :-X

Just out of curiosity...

Do you have missions within NV? I mean find, kill, destroy, steal... that kind of fun? Or is NV like Pala - a cease fire zone where you just get missions and turn in?

In one of the videos I saw some sort of  one-wheeled NV patrol robots that will open fire if you start shooting at someone, so I assume it is supposed to be a cease fire zone!

It is a cease fire zone, as are many in the game, but it is so much more complex.   Pala is simple - you go in, get your mission and then leave to do it.  If you start trouble in Pala (or Mosate) then you'd better run because they'll get you sooner or later.  :-()

When you go into most of the towns in either Fallout 3 or New Vegas, you meet people, can have discussions with them, and can receive missions from some of them.

Although I've just arrived in New Vegas, I wanted to experiment with things so I created a save (which saves your exact spot, time, etc. just like saves in the good 'ol days - none of this go to a safe house, save only at certain points type of nonsense).  After saving, I killed one of the important characters which would have changed the game because after I reloaded and had a conversation with the guy, he offered me a mission - the location of which was in the same hotel (the Presidential Suite) - I got suckered by the way  :-()

Those unicycle robots keep the order in town, and I managed to get a whole set of missions from one of them.  Your Pipboy keeps track of all your missions, will mark the locations on your map, and you can even read relatively detailed notes on the missions at your leisure.

While games like FC2 are great for shooting and having a great time in a relatively open world, the Fallout RPG games involve many more choices, which often change the direction of the game - lots of fun, and makes for much experimentation potential.

So did I when I did that mission  :-()

It certainly would pay to be a disreputable sort when playing that mission !
