They're getting new players hooked so they'll buy BL2, it's the same tactic sony used with the "welcome back" program - they gave Little Big Planet away for free, and suddenly sales of Little Big Planet 2 jumped up - that's what I call good marketing  :-X

Ideed... the same goes to Far Cry... they are selling FC+FC2 at a very cheap price and this weekend they have Call of Duty series with discount.  :-X
