Music Player/Organiser, freeware (Gold edition $20)

I'm posting because it is a recommendation of my favourite professional computer mag and has been introduced there consuming one entire page of praise hehe. I need something other than winamp or mediaplayer, and maybe some of you find it useful too.

Now using it for a couple of hours, I think it is really useful for my music (I rip my own CDs so I have 320kb mp3 for nonstop music in the background). The mm3 is nice because it allows you to check other sources than mediaplayer for album art and track titles and such, and it asks you if you want to use what it found. I hated mediaplayer for finding an album on the net I never had and it used the wrong info overriding my file tags and names. That made me really angry because I had to get rid of the crap with a lot of w@&k involved. Now, mm3 doesn't do that, and it has many more features. I am quite satisfied with it :-X

Sounds interesting Art - I keep all my music on a central server so having a good organizer is essential.  WMP and Winamp are bloated these days.

Art Blade

having played around a bit more with it, I think it is really a thing to manage a big archive. Download is quick, like 8mb, installs quickly, done.

It is capable of gapless playback (seamless mp3 switching) but you should go configure this:

Options > Player > Output Plug-ins > MediaMonkey direct sound output > configure > crossfade tracks "disable"

default is 4 secs crossfading, means it mixes every tune like a deaf DJ regardless beats etc. Especially annoying if you already have pre-mixed music (dj compilations). Without crossfade, you just get an instant switch between tunes.

oh and you can fill and sync about everything up to apple ipod and such devices

just needed to tell you I had read  about that gap-less play being better if you disabled the cross-fader. Now, many hours of music later, I find it much better to have the cross-fader set to 1 second combined with "fade in new track" plus "remove silence at the beginning / end of track" - like that, the auto-dj, which is customisable, will then pick those tracks that meet the criteria you set the DJ to and it performs rather smooth cross-fades without silent parts, and it's quick enough so you won't get a beat-soup but still would call it a nice transition... Cool... :)

Very useful are options like "add tracks from playlist." Playlists can be picked from a drop-down menu in the options for Auto-DJ setup, example: Add tracks from: playlist > choose > "favourites - not heard recently (1hr)" - Like that you get to hear all the stuff deep down your archives you forgot about or that is so new you don't know it yet :)

Just a little update for you and a big update since I originally posted: Now v4.0.6.1501

I still have my old MM on my other partition but yesterday started it on my W7 which caused the update and installation.

Man, I still like it  :) :-X

I'm definitely going to have to remember this as we are looking at an external drive for films and music.

It would of course have been handier to have thought of the drive well before moving  ;) but hey, Canada is still there in the future  :)

it can be installed as a portable version, too  :) By the way, it does play films, too. At least MP4 which I have on my disk. A massive tool  :)
