Very interesting settings. In general, interesting to see that almost every member uses his "own" loadout(s). Similarity is only forced by lack of variety of silenced weapons (without DLC that is).

I'm on my 3rd through now and I only got the same classic loadout in my armoury that I've come to appreciate (6P9, MP5, Dart). And for special reasons, IED, Dragunov, and later, MGL.

The rest I never use. Well, I only used other weapons because I had already purchased them and didn't want them to go to waste... But whenever I have a "strange" weapon on me, I can't wait to return to the armoury... :)
Thanks :P, yeah, nothing like the good ol' favorite setup to destroy some Guard Posts in the morning; yeah, it is quite a shame that there is only 4 silenced weapons, I would have loved to see weapon customization instead of just "Silenced Weapons", such as adding a Silencer, a Laser Aim Module, a Tactical Flashlight, and the like, to an AR-16 for example, that would have added a higher feel of customization in-game, but, I would have really loved to see the Silenced MP5 fall under the "Secondary Weapons" category, and add a proper Supressed Assault Rifle.

You like stealth gameplay, nice, I lean more towards loud gameplay, since I do not really like doing missions at night, had a phobia of being jumped on at night by random mercs on my way from Pala to Mike's back in the day, those days are over, but I just do not feel comfortable, also, the vision is somewhat impaired without sunlight, and the enemies can be quite sneaky, hiding in the shadows.

Hehe, I try to switch my weapons every back and then when I am not in missions, but I just keep getting back to my favorite "Ada Wong" setup, it just combines Short & Destructive, Medium / Medium-Long & Supressing and Long / Explosive & Tactic gameplay all in one, though, I have to admit, the Crossbow is kinda tough to use sometimes, the explosion's range is nice, yet not tactic enough because it sets anything around it on fire just like an IED or a Rocket, for that, I use either Grenade Launcher.

Art Blade

I use silent weapons mainy because I don't want to get blown away by my own speakers while listening for hostile mercs sneaking up on me :) Usually they're never really close (stopping power of head shots...) to bother me with loudspeakers going berserk. Well, if something explodes near me, it does give me quite a start  ;D

I don't necessarily approach at night, I like stealth in daylight... gives me an extra kick  ;D

An interesting conclusion an outsider looking into our discussions might draw from reading the varying opinions is that the game really must be an open world playground for so many different methods to be each as successful as the next.

Excellent conversations by the way; I truly enjoy reading the logic that all of you use for your load outs.

Phil-318

It depends on the type of mission that I am moving to.  For the longest time I used the Dragonov, SAW, and IEDs.

But lately, I started using the Ar-16, Dart Rifle, and Mac-10.  Finding it to actually be more effective.

WA-HEY! you posted! Been with us for ages, holding back all the time, eh, matey :) Welcome! :)

Yeah, thank you.  When I first registered, I had found this website through another link, returning to the site by just clicking on the address in my computers history.  Well, I cleared my history and eventually, I forgot what username that I chose. :-[

Yes indeed Phil-318,
Welcome back, and I too look forward to your stories - it is great to hear perspectives from others because it often leads to new ideas on game approach.  I've already learned so much for the other members, which allows me to greatly extend game play.

As to load outs, my latest is AS50, Uzi, and dart - oh, and the primitive machete.  The reason for the big sniper is to specifically target flammables so the consequential fires result in choruses of "ahhh....haaas...."  The Uzi is a necessary automatic for tight quarters fighting, and the dart is always fun to begin an assault with.

Art Blade

I recently changed my loadout too, from 6P9,MP-5 and Dart, I exchanged the MP-5 in favour of the AS50. It has the best scope and power, and sometimes I want to start fires with one shot at flammables. Also, taking out driving patrols is easier with a clip of 5 than a single shot dart.

Just checked, I too use the primitive machete :)

Art Blade

PZ, judging from your latest screen shots, you are using the "homemade" machete? The primitive one isn't that corrugated, and it's more blackish.

RedRaven

tell you what guys (and galls!) when it comes to fire-starting the flare pistol is an amazingly effective tool ( and only 4/6 diamonds too :-X)
suprisingly good at taking out vehicles too.
(and for those concerned with accuracy- it does not count toward it ;D)
check it out for free at the bus wreck in north-east part of sector 9 in Leboa (where the envelope icon appears for predecessor tape locations, one on the table out side the bus- and dont worry about the 3 mercs on guard, so so easy to run them down in any vehicle)

I'm sure that you're correct - the thing looks so primitive that's what I called it!   ;D

Thanks for the info on the flare pistol dke58 - I like to start fires these days and that might be an easy way to do it when flammables are not present.

Art Blade

I have two things to add:

I discovered the power of the single-handed A79 grenadelauncher, with which I sometimes replace my beloved 6P9, but keep my MP5 and Dart.

The 6P9 is more powerful than you might have thought, here a demonstration of a head shot (he was pride of the guard post and will be remembered for his heroic services) - the bullet went straight through the head. Observe how blood and water sloshed simultaneously. It does go through two heads at once, too. Maybe those mercs have very fluffy brains, but hell, it's just devolution  ;D

Art Blade

I was a bit hesitant about posting and "advertising" a headshot, yet the screenie was too much of an eye-catcher to slam it into the bin, and I was surprised indeed at how that bullet went through the merc's nut like a hot knife through butter ;D

About my loadout:

I'm still sticking to the silent approach, until I need more power. The MGL would replace the MP5 which would leave me without an automatic weapon, or I would have to replace the Dart which would leave me without a sniper - bad and bad and loud. So I decided to use the MP5 very carefully as if it was my 6P9, quick hit on the mouse only releases two bullets which isn't exactly a burst ;D Like that, I am able to perform single kills as well as panic attacks unloading an entire clip at one target (and still miss sometimes lol).

I can't do without the Dart if I want to be silent, because any other sniper would replace the MP5, again leaving me without any automatic weapon and that's bad for me if I encounter a bunch of angrily swarming mercs.

So, sticking to MP5 and Dart, I am free to use any secondary weapon for the noisy jobs. IED and M79, Flare (rarely) and 6P9 are what I swap depending on my mood :)

I too have never traveled without my silent sniper (dart) however, thanks to the advice received regarding sighting with a scope and then switching weapons, I'm practicing with another load out:

  • Primary - Dragunov
  • Secondary - 6P9
  • Tertiary - anything that is fun, for instance the mortar, flame thorwer, or one of the rocket launchers.
Here is how it is used: I typically soften up an area with the dart, but now I scope in on the head with the Dragunov then switch to the 6P9 for a single shot silent kill.  Repeat this process as long as possible, then go loud with the Dragunov and mop up the rest.  For fun, start fires with flamethrower, lob shells with mortar, etc.

Another load out:

  • Primary - anything fun - I like the sound of the AK-47
  • Secondary - 6P9
  • Tertiary - Carl-G
Same basic theory as the load out above, but this time using the Carl-G's scope to sight in the target, then taking it out silently with the 6P9.  The advantage of this load out is that I can have any of the cool primary weapons to play with.

In both instances, the 6P9 is the key to silent success with softening up an area.  It is then usually easy to mop up with a variety of methods.

My favourite bunch of guns for running around the landscape with would be:

Mac 10
MP5
Dart rifle

6P9 is a very close second choice for secondary, depending on how keen I am to stay quiet, but prefer to have the Mac on hand if I find myself in a tight pinch ie. I fail to take out enough guys with the silent weapons first and the rest manage to gang up on me. It's a terrific close-quarters defensive weapon to have on hand.

Sometimes I have the A79 GL as secondary, it's a great crowd disperser! I once got six guys in one hit at TaeMoCo Mine (they were all having a tete-a-tete in the pit together, the unsuspecting nongs), and quickly picked off the rest with darts. Mission over in about 30 seconds!

I love my dart rifle, though it wears out quickly. Occasionally when I'm in an armory I'll stick a new one in a crate and take a new one with me as well, so if the one I'm carrying starts to jam, or if I want a fresh one for the start of a mission, I can go to a safehouse and get the new one. This means I'm short a weapon in the special slot though.

MP5 is my fave primary, good all-round type weapon, quiet, accurate and durable.

Favourite funtime havoc-wreaking weapon:
MGL 140

RedRaven

got to be multiple.

PRIMARY is the M1903 to begin with, then as soon as the arms convoys are done its straight on to the Dragunov SVD

SECONDARY this depends on what mischief i'm currently engaged in. Always buy the crate so safe houses give me more flexibility. As for the weapons its either Flare gun, Silent Makarov, I.E.D's or occasionally the M79.

SPECIAL similar to secondry weapons, get the crate as soon as possible, then its a choice between Dart rifle, LPO-50 flame thrower or the Crossbow from DLC

.....but when push comes to shove the machete is always a surefire way to get the job done, just keep low till last possible moment, or charge in running and jumping all over so they cant get a clear shot on you, its easier to clear an outpost or safe house this way than you probably expect - often they seem that shocked they dont even get a single shot off ;D

as any of you who have read some of my previous posts, or looked through the quick starts posted up i'm a little bit obsessed with keeping my Accuracy at 100% ;D
as a consequence i make great use of grenades and molotovs, and also any vehicle i'm currently cruising around in makes an excellent weapon if your up for a bit of hit&run action.

Generally its a combination of Long Range, Stealth or Explosive attacks
I will generally carry a Fire based weapon, Explosive based and a sniper rifle, but will have the secondry and special crates stocked with the opposite hardware (for example Carrying Flare pistol, SVD and Crossbow. crates contain M79 and LPO-50) have found this gives me a good tactical flexibility.

For those of you who have not noticed Accuracy is affected in the following ways

Standard Pistols, SMGs, Rifles and vehicle mounted guns are 1 for 1 ratio
Shotguns (all 3 in basic/ 5 with DLC) each shot counts as 7 (so it kills accuracy rating)
Explosives, Flame weapons and vehicle hits do not count towards it in any way. which is nice :-X

And if you manage to hit 2 targets with one shot (most easily achieved with sniper rifles) then this will increase your accuracy score, eg if the first shot you fire misses you get 0%, hits one target 100%, two targets will give you 200% tho obviously this will drop with each subsequent shot, even if they are hits as its calculated on how many shots - how many hits.

:-X Thanks, RedRaven, I didn't know how accuracy was worked out.

RedRaven

no worries  ;D .

Another tip regarding two for one shots - the easist way to try it is against the pair of mercs in any of the swamp boats as they are confined by the width of the boat so its just s case of picking your spot and getting timing right.

[smg id=1354]

this is one of the easiest places due to the patrol that goes around the island, the boat enters view from the left then heads straight towards you making it too tempting an oportunity to pass up.

Good tip - I hardly ever go to that area, so it will be an interesting trip for me.  :-X

retiredgord

Very good pick-up RedRaven. I'll  be trying and watching for situations in Round 3. My favourite spot is west of Fort in the north. The g/p there has a gas cylinder standing up and if patient two mercs walk directly in front. Squeeze, bang,ARGGGH, UUGH, BOOM AND FIREWORKS AND FIRES THAT USUALLY TAKES OUT ONE OR TWO MORE. If you take the shot from just by the road out of Fort nearest the g/p you can have oodles of fun.
The sun is over the yardarm somewhere in the world..time for a beer :)  :)
