After patch 1.05 was released I decided to use one of my three careers (my first that also got the story mission completed) to reset all outposts; additionally I set the difficulty to "Master (very hard)"

So now I wanted to retake "Camp Murder" not far to the North of Badtown and scanned the area for bad guys. I decided to shoot one charger in the middle of the camp with my silenced Z93 sniper rifle and ran away in a circle around the outpost so I could watch what was going on from a safe position.

Everyone was running towards my first position from where they figured my shot came. Everyone but their only sniper whom I took out with my silenced 1911 "Shadow" and then I disabled the alarm manually. Meanwhile the guys were returning so I laid two mines near one of those alarm posts and close to the centre and then I had to hurry as they had detected me. Nevertheless I managed to drop a third mine on my way out and started to run away as fast as possible. I heard one mine set off and a second later the next mine went off -- outpost liberated. That was quick.. hehe  :-D

Inside the safehouse, replenishing my ammo, I thought about the third mine that was supposedly sitting somewhere between the recently arrived Rakyats who kept going, "who's da man? Me!" when I heard a sharp bang followed by a "f@#k me!" -- Ah, there. I opened the door, ready for action, but everyone outside was still peacefully guessing whether or not they were "da man." I walked amidst them checking out pirate bodies when all of a sudden the detection metre set off and everyone turned against me.

It lasted a few seconds.  :-D

I couldn't loot the poor sods because I already had hit the 10k mark again.. off to play some all-in poker games..

I was thinking about fragger's "luck" when going to lose money.. and like him I hit the jackpot. Three times in a row $1,000 playing all-in. However, this fourth time took the biscuit..

I already had a full house when the flop was dealt, but everyone with "three of a kind" except me, I got four of a kind with four times four.  :D  See the game wasn't expecting everyone to go all-in, the pot should read "1000" rather than "100"  :-D

Recently one of the most heard lines for me is, "what happened to the alarm?!"  :-()

Maybe it's an illusion but it seems to me that on Master difficulty the mercs and pirates are way more sensitive and finally react appropriately when you throw a rock somewhere. It appears that they can hear it from farther away now. What isn't an illusion is the fact that their bullets rip through you as if you were a sheet of rice paper. Better stay clear of their weapons.. it does hurt now and you'll find yourself dead on the ground before you can reload. :-D

Dweller_Benthos

Has anyone ever hit someone while tossing a rock? I thought of that the other day, just never had a chance to try yet.

I did it with civilians who immediately panicked  :-D

fragger

I did it accidentally when I was trying to get through the cave to snaffle the privateer's uniform. I tried to throw a rock past a couple of guards but instead I hit one in the back, and even though I was hidden again before he could turn around I got a "You were detected" message and failed the mission.

Art Blade

well, no wonder.. it's not exactly the smartest way of distracting them, is it  :-D I'd have had a good chuckle at that if I had been in your shoes, then  :-()

By the way, throwing a rock at someone produces a sound like a punch to the face in some action films.

I have reset all outposts for the second time (yes, I did liberate them all again before that) and started a cross-country walk from the Compound (oh man, I love the compound when no outpost is liberated nearby.. loads of reinforcement mercs pouring into that place  :-D ) headed to some random coastal outpost in the Northern half of the map. Merc patrols everywhere. :-X But careful on Master difficulty.. they're quite a bit meaner now.  :-()

I was walking near a road, a bit downhill from it so cars wouldn't spot me, when I heard a car approach, some male voice going, "UNNGH!" and the car disappeared without ever slowing down. Curious as I am I had to take a peek and saw two dead mercs lying in a T-crossing. Apparently the car had pasted them both and didn't as much as swerve. I needed a little ammo anyway so I looted those poor sods :-D

Had the rock been a bit higher it might have hit him in the head and knocked him out, but his skull was probably too thick for it ????

But I did laugh :-()

I was up on a bluff and down below were three pirates next to the road with a bear in a cage. So of course I shot the cage and let the bear out. The bear took down two of the baddies then headed for the remaining pirate, who was frantically trying to gun it down as it charged. While he was doing that, another bear came out of the bush across the road and also charged him, from the rear.

He actually managed to drop the first bear - just in time to get mauled from behind by the second one >:D

mandru

Caught by the bare behind!

I've restarted the game in the second save slot and reached the point where I get to go burn Hoyt's pot fields.

My first time through the mission Kicking The Hornet's Nest I hit it at night in a mad rush to get through it.  But this time I went after it in daylight and approached it from a very laid back "No need to rush this" attitude.  Cautiously I perched on the high ridge between fields 1-2 & the largest fields 3-4.  Camera equipped I thoroughly scanned each field for all enemy personnel and eliminated them before descending to destroy the fields they were guarding returning to the ridge top to survey the next before moving on.  I was even able to lure several of the pirates up out of the waterfront shanty town where they were posted out in the open to clear the way before burning the final field and rushing through to hit the boat with my grenade launcher.  At least Plan Wise my strategy was working tick by tick according to the numbers.  :-D

Part way through the mission I noticed that my computer screen was acting up.  ??? "$&@#!"

There was a swelling and contraction that was happening on the outer edges of the screen that was making it difficult to keep my field of focus at the center of the screen.  My first thought was that my monitor was going on the fritz but when I paused the menu screen was stable.  ?????

So then I started to worry that there was a problem with my fairly new graphics card.  :'(

It wasn't until a bit after that that I had an "Oh, Duh!" moment and realized that I'd managed to outstrip my previous high benchmark for goofiness.  I'm probably the only person ever to get paranoid from the effects of virtually burning pot.  :-[

My first time through this part of the game was dark so I hadn't even noticed the visuals.

both fragger's two bears story and mandru's being virtually stoned out of his head stories are hilarious

Just reminds me, one incident that took place yesterday near the Pacific Airport (now, that's a hint at where those Rook islands may be located). I was on foot playing the minefield game with oncoming merc traffic on my way to the airport. In case you haven't played it: walk along an enemy-infested road with a mine in your hands. Once you see a four-wheeled patrol, drop a mine and run away from the vehicle so they will give chase. After the unavoidable crisp bang turn around and you are likely to see a wrecked car doing somersaults at you while puffing out whiffs of black smoke and flames and whirling up white dust from the road. Just great :)

However.. out of the blue, a Rakyat patrol came bombing down the road from behind me. And I was looking at a merc patrol that came bombing down the road from ahead of me. They shot past each other in their respective lane, turned around, and gave it another try. Of course they missed each other again, braked, turned around, and gave it another try. Of course they missed each other again, braked, turned around, and gave it another try. Of course they missed each other again, braked, turned around, and gave it another try. Finally they clashed, got out and impressed one another with insults, bullets and brave postures until the few survivors fell into the river and drowned.

I wish I had had a camcorder with me. A story to be told to and by generations to come :-D

Sounds like loads of fun; +1 for that technique!  :-X

Art Blade

thank you. You are too kind, my friend :) I love that technique. Basically fail safe, it takes out whatever comes at you and usually they won't have time to fire a single bullet at you. Run there, loot the bodies and get ready for the next car. Just as usually, the bang attracts more cars.. you'll end up with a road that looks as if a car factory blew up next to it  >:D

That's about what it looks like when you turn around. The car is still careening and the blip on top to the right of the car is a merc being hurled out of the car.  :-D

The funny part is that they are on point chasing you and are killed by their own greed  :-()

exactly  :-D And you can bet their lives on it, too  >:D
