PC: DLC, as a gift/resale possible?

Hello,

I'm interested in DownLoadableContent (PC) but do not want to do business online. Since it's "download only" and has to be payed for, I wonder if someone else (I want it legally=pay for it) could purchase it for me.

If so,

  • is it necessary that FC2 is installed on that machine?
  • is it a file (i.e. zip/exe file)?
  • lol, or simple: (how) can it be moved from one to another PC?

Any thoughts/help appreciated

PS: I don't want anyone of you peeps to buy it, I'm thinking of "real life buddies" of mine :)

You mean like Josip or Andre?  Sorry, don't know the requirements for the PC DLC

I don't know yet, but I'm planning to investigate, and I'll let you know.  I don't know anything about steam yet.... :-\

me neither. Only heard DLC is only available for steam clients, that means register/membershi(t)p (lol typo) and I don't want to do any business involving my money on the net. I prefer an old-fashioned shop.

I'm with you on that one - I'm the paranoid type when it comes to banking info on the net.  However, some credit card companies allow you to generate a temporary visa/mc number in which you specify the dollar amount and the expiration date.  You simply use that number and verification code to make your purchase.  So if you needed to make a $90 purchase, create the card with a limit of $90.

I just bought it yesterday @ ubisoft for $4.95, but i haven't tried it yet. i'm about to embark on my 4th playthru, and i thought, why not??

it's an exe. file btw (104mb), so installation is pretty straight forward. They also strongly recommended you install a download manager, which i did, although i don't think it's necessary.

excellent info - that was what I was hoping for, a file! I assume they send you an email with registration code, don't they? I reckon you have to register that thing somehow, don't you?

in Germany it's more and more popular to use high speed broad band connections, DSL, at up to 16mb down- / 2mb upload. I have something like 6/1. more than enough... 100mb download is quite quick then

Because I am in a rural area, I'm lucky to get 128kbps!  I have a satellite guy coming next Friday though.

You have to register @ ubi.com, although i only had to login, as im a member @ ubi forums.

You have to give your name, address, and city, as well as credit card number. You then are prompted to D/L a 'download manager" which they strongly recommend which i did, once I had the exe file, i just followed the install instructions, and that was that.

Ubi did send me 2 emails, one was a confirmation of my personal info, and a reference number for the file, for my records only. No need to activate anything. the other was a CD key for MP to use the new maps, which, of course i wont be using since i don't play MP.

Hmmm. Sounds like it won't be a good idea to ask anyone to do all that (register, personal info etc) just so I can avoid doing it myself... Maybe Ubi releases that stuff on an add-on CD or includes it in a special edition of FC2.

Now I can dl with a bit of confidence knowing the process in advance.  I can't wait to try out the crossbow and ATV that spaceboy has been  :) touting these past months - too bad I still can't get it via my PS3   :(

Yeah, I got it from the Ubi store, even though I have Steam, I didn't get FC2 through steam, since I can't download large things like that. I downloaded at w@&k and brought the file home and installed it, so one of your friends should be able to just download it for you and give you the file.

thanks for your reply, D_B. Only problem I see is that they would have to register with ubi in case they hadn't done that before.

Anyway, I think I know enough now to decide what to do (even if that means that I'm not getting any DLC)

I think when I registered with Ubi I just gave them all fake info. The credit card info was real though, since they don't take paypal.

Well, i had a good long session today. Gawd, the time just flies by whilst playing FC2. ;) I did the tut yesterday, and today, (as josip) I did the police chief mish with his bro getting a bullet,  for my bud. I'm trying this playthru at "Infamous". :o

I had some fun with the ATV as well. it can motor quite nicely. it feels about as quick as the dune buggy btw. The other DLC wepons were waiting for me in an open crate in the weapons room. They are free in the game, no diamonds nescessary.

The crossbow, much to my surprise, is not silent. it shoots an explosive arrow, but depite the explosion, i'm not sure if it can take out more than 1 merc at a time, even if the're close together. TBH, i haven't used it much, as you only get 3 arrows per load.

The silenced shotgun is a treat. It's not really all that quiet, sorta similar to the MP5, but it will kill in 1 shot almost every time, even, if your target is 20 ft away, or so.
you get 6 shots per clip, and 42 shells,  i believe per load.

the sawn off is a beast if you only need 1 shot, and noise isnt a problem. One shot then you need to reload.

I think there's 1 other vehicle, but i haven't seen it yet.

Indeed - thanks for the update - the Unimog is the other vehicle - supposed to be some kind of large truck.
