Heh, a good thing too.

Once I opened the indicated folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\-long_random_string-\856" I found six (not four) more folders (not files).  :D

Putting me effectively back to square one as I have no idea how to proceed.  ???

I take 10 deep calming breaths and reflect on the consoling thought that I've referenced my theme music the Jethro Tull song "Nothing Is Easy" here on OWG before.  ^-^

what are the folders called and what's in those folders?

I do have 5 UBI games currently loaded.  They are FC2, FC3, FC4, ACR and AC3 so it looks like I've got a real plate of spaghetti going in the save game section to sort out.

I should mention that when going to my hard drive and following click path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\-long_random_string-\856"  after the "\-long_random_string-\" step is where I am encountering the six folders I mentioned and none of them are the final "\856" as given in the example that I was using as a template to find the save files.

Those six folders found where the "\856" folder should be are named 40, 46, 54, 420, 449 and 478.

What's in the folders?   Ugh...  The easy answer would be "Uhh... Stuff."   ????

But I'll detail it here:
Spoiler

Folder 40 last modified 8/24/2014 holds:
  1.save     ---------------------  last modified 8/24/2014

Those folders are all from different ubi games and FC4 obviously has got a different number than you expected. Each one of those folders contains savegames. The easiest way to find out which one of them is related to FC4: Play FC5, save, quit, and check where the newest files are in those folders. It will be only one folder with files that have got the most recent time stamps. That's what you're looking for  :-D

-> 420.

The savagame files is typically placed here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\-long_random_string-\856

:lamp: I suppose the 856 folder is random too, and if You have other Upay games they will have their own "856" folder. Check when the files (1.save, 1.save.upload, 2.save, 2.save.upload) or folders, is last altered, to find witch game they belong to.

The files within the 420 folder is altered when You last played FC4, it is 4 of them, and with the correct names.

So it is definitely the files within Your 420 folder You should move / remove. :)

Thanks guys for the confirmation on that.  Now I know how to proceed.  :-X

Found Sabal at the camp south of Lake Visalakhutta (x475.4 y783.2), where one of the armed escort missions ends, I think.
He was taken out by a rhino before I got to him... ????

So I loaded one of my "savegame files copy's", and went right back to the spot, finding him praying.
He did not take any notice of me, until I pointed my weapon at him; then he got up and made gestures like "no please, don't shoot"... >:D

I spared him, and let him continue his prayers, when a rhino appeared.
Couldn't let the rhino do him, so I took it out with the buzzsaw.
Sabals contribution to taking out the threat, was to flee behind the tent crunching down in fear, like a "true civilian". ::)

A couple additional observations.

Spoiler

Sabal the high and holy observer of tradition:  Beats you to death with what your father would have wanted when on closer examination your father whored out your mother (the Tarun Matara no less) to spy on Min and then flips out because she does such a spanking good job of it.

Amita the self proclaimed first woman in the Golden Path (It's a lie*):  Beats you to death with what your mother would have wanted.

The Guard posted outside the door in Shanath when you go to meet Amita to receive the mission to capture The Kings Bridge makes an interesting comment.  He says "This land has seen many wars going clear back to Banashur and Yulung.  Maybe it's all the same conflict."

*Amita's lie?  In one of the cut scenes (or maybe I'm merging two different cut scenes working from memory  :-\\ )  Ajay asks "Did my mom and dad really start the Golden Path?"

Amita in an excited voice responds "They did!  Your mother was a smart woman.  She knew what she was doing when she sent you back here..."

So Amita admits that there was a woman in the Golden Path before her!  That would negate all of her claim to be the first.

Good points on all counts :-X

I love your analyses mandru 8)

Once again the game refused to allow me the spare Pagan Min ending.  :D

The only thing I can think of and will try on my next attempt is instead of blowing through that part quickly I'll remove the no detect cheat and see if that makes a difference.  I know that was a necessary condition to fight the final boss in the Shangri-La missions.  If that doesn't fix it I'll give up on trying to get that ending and just enjoy digging into the nooks and crannies of the rest of the game.  ;)

I've noticed a conflict.  You might call it a continuity error that fails to hold up under closer examination

Early on in the game when Sabal speaks to Ajay about his team being available to effect Ajay's rescue from Pagan/De Pleur (and the torture of crab rangoon) he says something along the lines of "We were in the area and spotted Pagan Min's helicopter.  We had to check it out because he rarely travels this far South."

The conflict arises in the fact that at game start  when you first gain movement control of your character if you bring up the map it clearly shows your location as being almost due East of the outpost named Border Observation Post.  You are up in the mountains (unreachable later by buzzer) but still just a hop, skip and a jump from Pagan Min's fortress in the Northeastern most part of the game map.

The border observation post does make some minimal sense as you are coming into Kyrat from India by bus.

Then that first bell tower you have to reach (to complete the tutorial/"Prologue" where the avalanche takes place) to meet back up with Sabal the geographic location conflict continues.  Again when the map is checked for location it's even further North and very close to the East South East of Min's Fortress.

Prologue complete and you're walking into Banapur like you've just been for a stroll down to the corner SpeedyMart for a slushie and a bag of crisps to find you've magically diagonally crossed the entire bloody game map N.E. to S.W. (including the King's Bridge) with no further conflict whatsoever.  ???

I guess this sort of thing happens when you have many different teams working on various aspects of a project and then have to stitch it all together to meet a release deadline.  :-D

+1 from me too, I love how you continue to uncover these nuggets mandru :-X :-D

I never even thought to try looking at the map during the introductory sequence.

I also love the "slushie & bag of crisps part

I started a new game a few days ago, and I picked up the exact thing you mentioned in your post mandru except, you picket up the cross country jump I didn't think off at the time.
And i also think it was Amita who said to Ajay that the Northern part is completely inaccessible  :D
Excellent observation +1 from me also mate  :-X

mandru

Thanks guys.  I blame it on having too much time on my hands and the immersion factor I'm finding in FC4.  :-D

I'm enjoying digging into the varied subtleties of the game.  There's a lot of lore, a lot of daily scuffles from varied families, triumphs and defeats large and small.  There's tons of information provided through not only the scripted dialog of  the varied personalities in Kyrat but also the notes scattered everywhere.

Yet more internal/infernal ramblings

I've yet to nail down who Sir Nigel is and the role he plays in the back story.  I've found his home and a few of his notes the most significant being the one in the mine where you confront Yuma.  That particular note tells Yuma to run for her life as she is going to die.  Whether Sir Nigel is some sort of mystic or harnessing drug induced visions I can't say.  I haven't found enough info on him to fill in those gaps.  And there's my yet unanswered pondering as to whether he is The Goat behind all those offerings attempting to revive Yalung.

There's the goddess Yakshini a seemingly tertiary deity who has several locations dedicated to her and a few notes from her adherents (read that as enslaved followers).  While there is little info about her it seems that she is related to her disciples' escape from reality with abandonment of family and responsibility through drug addiction.  She seems to be the consuming harsh mistress.

Another pair of notes I found to be of particular interest start with the one you read that triggers the cinematic scene in the mine where Yuma blows the hallucinogenic fungus dust into your face.

Once you regain control of your character reread that note!   Bolded words have been inserted so they stand out and you directly receive the first half of a message from your mother Ishwari.  The second half of Ishwari's message to her son is in the passageway on a shelf a short ways after you begin to pursue Yuma who has morphed into the visage of Kalinag.

Even as an Urn full of ashes Ishwari is still very much a player in the game of FC4.

It seems that (through whatever spiritual giftings a Harun Matara may have) she had determined that Ajay had to enter the multi-level conflict-torn battlefield that is the spiritually, morally and physically wounded Kyrat with out any preconceptions.  She had raised him to know right from wrong and that by being uncontaminated was the only way he could return home to Kyrat without predetermined biases and ultimately assume the mantle of the ultimate warrior Kalinag.

Think about it.

Ishwari was after all   the last family member to set foot in the Ghale homestead.  By killing her husband she defended herself against Mohan's jealousy which was spawned by the conditions he had thrust upon her by inserting her into Min's Palace as a deep cover spy.  She then fled to the U.S. with Ajay.  It seems to me that it was at her instruction that the Kyrati monks came into the Ghale home where they painstakingly divided and scattered in hiding the five pieces of the ancestral heirloom Thanka.  This was necessary preparation towards the fully anticipated time where upon her son Ajay would return to Kyrat and through learning the secrets of the Thanks' segments not only restore it to wholeness he would gain power of purpose as well as a spiritual awareness of the roots of his real heritage.

It would have been Uber-cool if after either the third or possibly final Shangri-La mission Ajay had the option of wielding Kalinag's tooth knife in place of the khukri.  The other FC games gave the option of more than one personal carry blade.   ^-^

Personally I feel that the game developers really dropped the ball by not allowing a game conclusion where Ajay becomes the unchallenged leader of Kyrat with Bhadra at his side.

Seriously!  If you can't stand schmaltz or happen to be diabetic you can skip this bit

It would have been ideal for Ajay the self proven champion, son of a Harun Matara to return to his homeland in its darkest hour, winning the hearts of the people healing the land and taking his mother's (herself a living goddess) successor as wife.  I doubt that any deity (a living god or goddess) would really give a crap one way or another about pomp and ceremonies created by mankind including Sabal's ritual to publicly elevate Bhadra to something she already was.  And yet, I can't help but imagine their wedding.

Ajay with Bhadra on his left the side closest to his heart.  Together they descend the stone steps at the front of the ruined Jalendu Temple.  There's a stirring in the aether around them and the spirit tiger suddenly stands at Ajay's right while the spirit elephant affectionately bumps Bhadra from the left with its trunk.  Above their heads the Fifth and golden Shangri-La bell is revealed.  As it tolls a single peal the temple is not only restored to new it's reformed to reflect the architecture of Shangri-La.  As in the effect used to reveal locations surrounding the bell towers (when hijacked) the POV camera sweeps around the temple to take in its newly formed perfection.  Then the camera sweeps away to several key spots in Kyrat showing the healing of the land and the people.

The poppy fields vanish and the original tea plantations stand anew in their place.

The hearts of the remnants of the royal army are turned and upon finding themselves crushed under the weight of their own self-condemnation they throw their weapons aside, fall to their faces and beg forgiveness of the people they were a mere moment ago fighting or abusing.  The miracle spreads as the people of Kyrat who's hearts have also been touched pour forgiveness upon their now broken and repentant former enemies.

Desecrated shrines and ruins across the land are restored.

And somewhere deep within the earth...  A restive Yalung flexes long dormant arms and legs.  Preparing to play his hand, he is massive and horrifying in scale and obvious latent power.  At the penetrating peal of the bell he looks up startled and gives an anguished scream that is cut off as he is encapsulated and entombed in a golden sphere (possibly the left over bits from Pagan's personal self-worshiping monument  ;) ) which is then bound (locking the prison) with seven sacred seals.

OK, I won't break out the glorious sweeping rainbows, I'll spare you the rhino's turning into unicorns and demon fish becoming lively prank playing freshwater dolphins.  You get the idea.

I'll admit it.  I mandru, am a hopeless romantic.  ::)

mandru, you blow my mind, mate :-() :-X

The extent of my plumbing of the depths has pretty much consisted of seeing how long I can remain underwater before getting chewed on by a demonfish. None of the subtextual subtleties that you have discerned would ever have occurred to me.

My approach to FC4 has largely been: If it moves, shoot it, and if it's a rock that looks like a rhino, shoot it just in case it is.

OK, finished the game last night. A few thoughts, comments, questions.

I didn't kill Amita, so she's off somewhere I guess. Didn't kill Min, got to place the ashes and pick up the last journal, then shot down Min's heli with an explosive arrow. Sat through the entire credits to see if there were any Easter eggs, didn't see any, so wasted time.

Walked back up to the palace to loot Min's body, got his pen and the medal for 600K which I don't really need. Went up to the palace and looked around. Too bad you can't claim that as another safe house, you'd think that would be the final prize for killing Min. At least there should be some locals there doing something, I mean it's the frikkin national palace, you'd think someone would take claim to it. Missed opportunity there on the dev's part.

Now for the question. I was back at the Ghale homestead and saw the golden pipe you get from the last Yogi mission sitting on the bench near the door. Went to interact with it and the game crashed. Once it was loaded again, the pipe was no longer something that could be interacted with. What did I miss? I went outside to the mission marker and they were there at the tent and essentially said good bye. Nothing more. So, what's the golden pipe mission?

From the wiki, link see GKID's post, I found this:

QuoteAfter finishing all Yogi and Reggie missions you will receive a pipe from them. You will find the pipe on a desk next to the door inside the Ghales house. If you use the pipe, you will suddenly wake up in a random location somewhere in Kyrat. This location will change every time.
