The special enemies are enemy combatants who have out of the ordinary weapons, i.e. a mortar.

JRD

Roaven is right... those stars are for mortars or Carl G / RPG guys... but the one in the nothwest mark the two guys by the roadside just waiting to be plastered to the ground by you and your vehicle  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Those two mercs on the road to the Bus Stop usually remain ON the road.  It's now just as easy and convenient for me to drive hell bent for leather and smack into one and if the other moves out of the way I back up to get arun at him.  Even if he gets in the vehicle it seems he gets bumped out when you ram it.
Those guys are real party animals.
The sun is over the yardarm somewhere in the world..time for a beer :)  :)

Yeah, the special AI stars on the map mark mortars, RPG & snipers. Plus those two doofs hanging out on the road from the bus stop. Too lazy to drive around I guess....

The two on the road from the bus stop to the armory are like Laurel and Hardy to me - always good for a laugh and I rub my hands together in gleeful anticipation when I'm planning to travel that road...

There is another two mercs hanging out on the road  :) (on the routes on the map they're not shown as red stars, but blue (unarmed Jeep) (which could be me, then, haha). By the way, on the same road a little to the north, there are even two more walking mercs, PLUS that jeep patrolling. Hmm, just checked again, around that safehouse (the one you see in the car experiment topic) I've just seen FOUR mercs walking around, plus jeep.

unwittingly stumbled into 1 lone merc (bet thats you), in the desert between Oasis and the northern most Diamond (drive/walk/swim west from northeast oasis toward jackal tape and bomb toys North East Leboa)  (only joking about swimming BTW)

first time he walked into front of my car, so i slammed on the breaks and spent 20-30 minutes looking for his mate (he was first foot loner ever saw)

next few times he was there, but not seen him past couple times.

I've had bad encounters with the walking mercs south of Sefapane more than once - I tend to forget that they are there - sometimes lucky enough to run one or two over at the last minute, but it sure does get the adrenalin going...

He might have been one of a scout division. They sometimes follow the sounds you make, especially of explosions,  (if you blew something up) and do that walking amazingly far.

I set off a couple of IEDs on my way past the fort, trying to entice them into following me. They did.

In the screen shot you see the path "we" took, descending from the fort to a safehouse and beyond, I drew it on the map. The scene in the screenshot depicts how I enticed even more of them to follow me. Near the safehouse is a GP, I lured its mercs away, they came towards my squad. Unfortunately they were friends and joined forces.

I didn't realise then that I might have found more mercs at that oasis :)

I bumped into some lone mercs a few times.
One sniper (?) by the river - a low ground, how stupid - near the airfield in Leboa.
Some other two guys, also in Leboa, somewhere in the north, can't remember where for sure........
Apparently they can pursue something they find weird... which is cool as you never know who might be behind the next tree. They could wander more  ;D ;D

You remind me. While trying to sucker some mercs, I blew up some IEDs on an open field with white grass, a few trees with small bushes at the base of the trees, and nothing else around. I wanted the mercs to follow me, not to kill them. Well, some were running around in a wide spread circle and I dropped another IED, didn't see any merc nearby. I set off the IED, big bang, and the tree next to me shaking like hell, you know like you wave a flag, and then a scream "AAAAAUuuarg!" from behind that tree. I cracked up laughing for minutes  ;D ;D ;D
