Recording my 2nd FarCry 2 Playthrough... Thoughts/Ideas

Hello everyone and greetings to those of you who viewed the thread. I'm new here to these forums so pardon me if this is misplaced.

I got this game way back at launch and gave up on it due to the boat escort mission at the start of the southern map. I was playing on the second hardest difficulty, Hardcore I believe, and decided to pick it back up in the past three weeks. I finally got back into it and finished it about six days ago. I have to say this is now my favorite game out there even now usurping even the likes of the resident evil franchise.

Now that there seems to be a drought of decent games getting released for awhile I decided to start this up again and record it.after hunting on youtube for a good thirty minutes and not finding anyone else playing it so I decided what the heck and jumped right in.

So far I plan on recording all the main faction missions as well as some side missions and i plan to do so in a some what unique way. I plan to recorded just the missions but three times a piece. once for a full on assault, once with a more stealthy approach, and finally a mix of sorts for a well planned thought out tactical solution. Additionally I plan to have highlights and other parts of interest in a highlight reel minisode to see what works really well on each individual mission from my point of view.

It is in my hopes that i can have these videos loose on the internet which will hopefully trigger some people out there to pick this up. If I can get one person to say to themselves, "This game has a lot of choices to be made and it really is a free roam FPS... MINE !" then my mission is done.

    but seriously, welcome to OWG, your in the right place as they others said, and think it will be interesting yet strange to watch you play as have only seen really short snippets of others playing and sometimes i,ve taken a couple of hours to do what they did in moments.

Its such a brilliantly written yet open ended game i'm sure you will keep on coming back to it,

the first and second are up now so I'll try this embedding out to see how this works. I'm still not entirely sure how that is done so if someone could tell me exactly how to do that it would be much appreciated. also if someone could inform me on the thread BUMP policy around here that would be great as well. I don't want to become a nuisance here in my first week or so posting the new videos.

by Bump do you mean repeat posts on same thing?
  as i've been posting a comic style thing using screen shots (only 3 so far tho cos i.m slow). but good you asked cos i didnt even know to ::)

dke58, to "bump" usually means "put back on top" -  If a thread didn't get any attention and therefore slowly sinking down to the bottom of the pages of a forum, submitting a new post with the only purpose of putting the thread up on top (as new posts do) is the "bump" to it ;)

Nice idea, and a good addition to our forum/site. You may bump it with at least a little bit of content other than just the one word "bump" in it ;)

As for the embedding... go to the gallery, video, add new item, and there you'll find an empty entry where you can paste the URL code of Youtube. Submit, and you'll see your vid is visible, and below will be an embed code you can copy and paste in your post.

A little late to the thread, but welcome to OWG Mechsican -  From reading your initial post, it sounds like you have the true OWG passion that makes this the best collection of members on the net, in my humble opinion.  And like you, I still believe this is the best game out there (even though I'm developing a passion for ARMA2).

As to forum policies, the only one that anyone needs to observe is to have fun.  Bumping (I didn't even know what that term meant) is something that I'd probably expect to see if a post did not receive a response.  I don't think you need worry though, it is just about guaranteed that you'll see responses to each and every post.  :-X

Mechsican, for readability reasons I deleted my post prior to PZ's. May I suggest that if you have questions you post them (bumping, hehe) rather than asking inside existing posts by way of editing? I almost missed your question, saw it only by accident, and my reply post looked, say, disconnected after your re-edit :)

Two things spring to mind. Considering you're on console, some people here might be interested in how you record, like what hard/software you use. And, since you're around CockFight now, ever read about our "merc war" ? Would be fun if you incorporated some of that in your unique vid tutorial... I reckon your youtube audience never saw anything alike either ;)

As for this "merc war" you speak of I have no insight as to what you are talking about. Granted I haven't been here long so its to be expected that I wouldn't be clued in.

You can also easily start the merc wars on the console - I do it regularly now on every time that I need pass through the area.  Loads of fun to watch the mercs kill one another from afar.  :-X

I'm pretty pumped for it myself. It will be the true sample of what all the mission videos will be like. Also a small Good, Bad, and Glitched/random occurrences highlight was thrown in for good measure to see if that is well accepted or not.

in the first run of the training mission something odd happens which I love. I also have two video clips from my broadcast channel on justin.tv that I know you all will love. When uploading files here will FLV's w@&k or should I just do a direct link to the clips. I know the more footage on the site the better so It would be good to know.

EDIT: part #3 is live. If all goes well this will be the final set up for all parts to come in regards to the mission layout and highlight reel after each trial of the missions. Hope you enjoy.

Just watched #3 in the gallery. Man, don't worry about "epic failures" - they show me I'm not the only one who commits them, and made me chuckle a couple of times ;) Actually, those make your vids even more likeable  :-X

I loved the guy on his knees, you aim, fire, and miss because he bends over in time LOL  ;D ;D Tell you what, I have that a lot. I sometimes manage to fire a complete bloody clip of my MP5 at a guy close enough to me I could spit and hit, but my bullets keep zipping all around him adding up to a gigantic miss  ;D

And mercs facing one but shooting in another direction, I know that too. Nice capture there :)

The other clip, yeah... You know, I just got up, sipping a coffee, eyes open 50%, and then that AT came jumping at you. I opened my eyes 100% LOL  ;D And funny how those mercs didn't want to quit dying there... strange, but funny too. I had that happen only once, and I remember I was amazed at how long I could walk away still hearing it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it and that you enjoy my failure. Part four is currently on the cutting room floor and about to add my voice over so stay tuned. i should be able to get four, five, and six finished today that will round out the tutorial mission and finally allow me to start playing again.
