I haven't done the "death from above" one yet. I thought I had an opportunity the other night but I didn't get a prompt. Maybe I was too high above him.

You won't get a prompt. Just jump on them as they are situated below you. Art mentioned somewhere that you can also jump onto them from a stone (or he told me in chat, don't remember) as long as you land on the poor guy. In fact, the "Death From Above" is easy once you did it once or twice. It's not too hard to find a pirate or privateer near a roof or overhanging rock; you may even help them a bit with a small distracting stone.  >:D
I find the hardest of all the "Death From Below" takedown. It's really hard finding a guy standing on a climbable edge, and even harder to lure one towards it :-D
Today I was able to perform my very first one this second playthrough when some guys were searching for me on the scaffolding of a fishing village while I was hiding in the water. I was really happy to finally be able to perform one, since they are required for an additional perk (double takedown from below, which is imho undoable)

indeed, I haven't yet performed any double takedowns. However, there are a few occasions during missions when you may perform takedowns from below (like fragger, I did my first in a submarine base with the same guy who was cleaning his rifle above a ledge and I took him down into the water). You can do both during the mission when you've been kicked down into the water by Vaas and have to escape with a helo; in that place where you need to get to the chopper I was able to take down the leftmost sniper from below and take down a patrol from above who wanders around near the second sniper to the right and passes by a rocky ledge from where I jumped at him.

This morning I just perforrmed a death from above in the north map. I saw two pirates standing near their truck below, I approached them from above and I got a promt. "Press X to jump ..."

I received a prompt like that too on one of my jaunts through the countryside, but I was too slow on the button and jumped right into a hornet's nest.

Art Blade

HAH! I had several double takedowns from above in a row! The first one even without wanting to

It all happened on the Southern island's airstrip.

Mercs had blocked the entrances with cars and were loitering close to them. I watched how a group of three was apparently about to take off in one of those technicals because the driver kept getting in and out without actually driving. I simply wanted to hitch-hike so I jumped in, er, on the back but couldn't take a seat. Standing there I thought I might as well try the co-driver's seat and wanted to jump to the front.. instead, I jumped out to the side whipping out my Tanto and slammed it down between throat and collar bones of the nearest guy (at that moment I was watching the screen with jaws dropping) only to rip it back out just to thrust it through the rib cage of the other guy who didn't as much as blink between those two strokes. At that point my jaws had dropped to the ground watching all that when a cha-ching, 150XP double takedown, sounded and the driver was shouting at the same time, "WHAT.. THE.. HELL!!" so I had to gut him in order to shut him up.  ???

Then I ran upstairs the nearest barrack there, below were two guys, and I thought hell, let's try.. jump, same result  Man.. that was unexpected for everyone, including myself  :-() Only difference, I enjoyed watching it while the others went ballistic (don't worry, they won't remember that day)  >:D

Good stuff, that's funny :-D :-X

I pulled off my first Death From Above takedown earlier tonight, and it just happened to be on the main target of a Wanted Dead mission. He was under a kind of lean-to and I took out all his men one by one. Then I got on top of the lean-to, threw a rock to lure him out, and got the prompt to jump on him and air him out.

I had a bunch of skill points piled up and was able to immediately finish off the skill tree, as there are some skills that you can't earn until you've done the DFA takedown at least once.

Art Blade

good one  :-D

You know, DFA can be achieved by simply jumping at someone as long as you're on grounds slightly above him, i.e. when you're on an ever so gently ascending slope.

I managed to do a double TFB yesterday. I was lucky to find a gunboat with 2 guys that were NOT on patrol. It was also during a wanted dead mission (which might have created the unique situation of 2 enemies just being in a boat without steering the damn thing).
I tried my luck, swam towards it below the surface, and popped out of the water to hear them talking to eachother about my recent disappearance (something like; "s#!t, vanished" and "We'll get you, Snowwhite") A slight turn to the left made the words pop up: "press E for Double takedown from below", I pressed, YESSS!!! got it! ^-^
Too bad it's just listed as 2 seperate TFB-from water :-\\

I might have done that one last night!  The only difference is that I did not throw a rock to lure the guy out; a truckload of Rakyat came by and he ran out to confront them.  All I did was jump on him from the roof to complete the mission.

My currently hated mission is the one on south island when J has to sneak into the training camp and nick a uniform. I have stalled at the same point two days in a row now.

Yup, you've guessed it, the cavern before the water. One time I managed to get past the eight or so privateers in the cave and used the door. As my prompt was to reach the shack above the jetty, I swam around from the boat to the ladder. In my excitement I failed to see the privateer who clocked me getting out of the water.

I know you are not meant to jump in the water early on, but I now suspect that may still be valid throughout. During today's attempt, I got to the cave with all the privateers in, then noticed the one on the jetty casually strolling back upto the cave, so I went back down and distracted the one by the waterfall again before slipping off the walkway and into the water.

Even though I checked both cave entrance and the guard up on the walkway could not see me, I still got mission failed each time I climbed out. Also swimming under the waypoint marker gave me no further prompts for the next one. Help - I'm stuck and a little bit annoyed...

hmmm.... strange, Jim.  I've played throught that part on the PS3, and swam to accomplish the mission.  My only challenge was to get through the rooms of guys before you hit the water.  After I fighred out the side pasage to bypass all the bad guys, this part was easy.  Once in the water, I swam to the stern of the ship where you climb out of the water to find your target.

You might have a corrupt save, and might need to restart the mission as a last resort.

Art Blade

I'm a bit confused the way you describe that mission, Jim, unlike PZ whose comment is completely recognisable for me. I remember the first time, I tried to swim there, too, and found out that getting out of the water always results in mission failure, so maybe you shouldn't go into the water yet. Take a look at the yellow point so you're not accidentally going the wrong direction. Oh, in case you haven't tried: change the difficulty level to easy for that mission at least which should help you get a little less attention (I hope) :)

Cheers chaps, both helpfull ideas  :-X I guessed that the mission end would be by the big ship, but as the current marker was on the down ramp from the cave, I hadn't got the next marker to tell me where the uniform would be. That's why I swam back to prompt the next marker to spawn.

Changing difficulty level is indeed an option I hadn't considered.

That's probably it; the yellow marker needs to be on the ship before you swim to it.

fragger

I know what you need to do there Jim. You can't just go through the water there, you need to continue on through the cavern until you reach the room with six guys in it (initially three regulars and two heavies, but the regular guy on the jetty outside will wander in after a minute and sit down. Tag him while you're near the waterfall on your way in so you can keep tabs on him once you're in the cavern). At first there will be two guys near the entrance to the cavern. Wait until they move away (one will stand at the top of a ramp, the other will go and sit down), then, staying crouched, move in and keep to the left wall. You'll find a back passage behind the sitting guy that you can make your way through. Whatever you do, don't throw any rocks to try and distract the six privateers in the cavern - that's the big mistake I kept making. Keep going, past a dead villager, until you come to a couple of crates, stay behind them, go under the ramp, stay well behind the heavy and go out towards the yellow dot. You'll come out on that jetty, and once you do, you can then drop into the water undetected and swim to the ship.

I wrote about it here. See that post and my other one that's two posts before it :)

Jim di Griz

Ahh, now that's one thing I hadn't tried - well, two things really...not throwing rocks and going under the ramp instead. I had found the side passage early on with the dead woman and even got as far as crouching by the crates close to the entrance.

The annoying thing is, I saw the far loot chest gleaming away (an irritating thing in current games, why can't we discover them for ourselves?) but didn't think I could get out that way.

I agree that walkthroughs can be the worst thing going sometimes, which is why I didn't go looking  :)

A shame I hadn't read your other post - like a few here though, I didn't read too much before starting the game for fear of spoilers.

I only got to the south island yesterday but I can say that the dumbest mission was the boss fight at Citra's temple.

There a boss fight in Batman Arkham Asylum, where you have to fight Poison Ivy, which is exactly the same as this one... absolutely unnecessary in a Far Cry game. It wasn't tough though... I only had to do it once, but it is really annoying to do this kind of mission in a FPS1 :D

Killing Vaas wasn't nearly as satisfying as I was expecting it to be either.....  :-( ... I got quite frustrated. Getting to Vaas is good fun but once you get there...

The other missions I dislike are, like other members already posted, the one where you have to escape the burning temple and the sinking ship. Both for the same reason. You have to memorise the way out and it becomes a stupid trial and error mission till you get it right  :D

Also the one you have to protect the dumb a$$ at the rice fileds and the one protecting Willis at the air strip... quite boring too... shoot wave after wave of enemies and keep your friendly safe... lack of imagination.

The marijuana plantation and the Medusa ones are great due to the open nature... perfect for a Far Cry game.

I guess the one where I had the most fun was the one you have to climb up a water tower and ambush the privateers convoy in the northern island. Man... great fun  8) . I had the GL-94 with me and I only used the sniper to pick scattered enemies (didn't want to waste a grenade round on a single guy). I love blowing up stuff... specially when it is packed with enemies and driving towards me  8) . Getting to the chopper was also good fun... have to improvise using a different loadout... loved it!  >:D

Next time around I'm going to lay a string of proximity mines and C4 along both sides of the road before getting my deck chair out on top of the water tower  :) It was fun playing it straight though.

Jim, lol, don't. I did that.  :-D It blew up the convoy really nicely and I got a not so nice message of mission failure because the convoy got blown up prematurely.
